Play Book Tag discussion

Hannah and Owen have only been married for one year. They live in a houseboat in Sausalito, California, with Owen's 16-year-old daughter, Bailey. Eleven years previously, Owen and Bailey lost their wife/mother to a car accident when Bailey was just a baby. Hannah and Owen are very much in love, but Bailey is having a hard time adjusting to her new step-mother, and she's making it very evident that she isn't happy with Hannah.

This book is fast-paced, and the backstory is short before you're thrown into the main crisis. Owen suddenly disappears, leaving a note for Hannah that says "protect her." Protect Bailey, surely but from what? Owen is running from something. Suddenly, it's all over the news that the company he works for is suddenly in trouble with the government. Owen's boss is arrested by the FBI. A U.S. Marshal shows up at Hannah's door and warns her not to trust anyone. Should she even trust him?

This book is a multiple award winner for good reason. I couldn't put it down! Easy to understand why it got picked up by AppleTV and, I believe, it has been released as a series starring Jennifer Gardner. Not that I'll see it since we don't subscribe - how many streaming services can one person pay for! (Sorry - had to vent). There are some parts of this mystery that you think you might have guessed, but the resolution is a whole different thing. I also understand there is a second book about Hannah Hall - it's going on my TBR.
