In "Jing-Mei Woo," how is Jing-Mei’s relationship with her mother initially characterized? Point to dialogue, descriptions, or incidents (such as the piano lessons, the argument about being a prodigy, or the matchmaking) that reveal tension, expectation, or misunderstanding.

Cosmo Satter | 3 comments (1.)Her relationship with his mother is tense. (2.)She initially thinks her mother lies about the story where she had to leave everything behind until she got more details.(3.)The mother is frequently talking about the “better daughter” and bragging about how good she is about other things like piano playing. (4.) Jing-Mei Woo is also seen as disrespectful and unknowing of Chinese culture. (5.)Due to this “disrespectfulness”, the Aunties seem to not trust her when she says “I’ll tell them everything”, talking about her mother. (6.) Regardless of the Aunties not believing her at first, after more reassurance, Jing-Mei is trusted a little more.

Anthony Longo | 6 comments Jing-Mei’s relationship with her mother starts off tense and full of misunderstandings. Her mom pushes her to be a prodigy, like with the piano lessons, but Jing-Mei resists, leading to arguments and hurt feelings between them.
