SENSE AND SENSIBILITY is a true classic of English literature and the latest film adaptation coming in 2026 is directed by Georgia Oakley and adapted by Diana Reid from Jane Austen’s first published Sense and Sensibility, waaaaaay back in 1811. Sense and Sensibility tells the classic tale of love and heartbreak in late 18th-century England.

The story follows the romantic trials and tribulations of the daughters of the recently widowed Mrs. Dashwood as they encounter, and learn to handle, the emotionally reckless male characters of Georgian society. In order to find happiness, the two teenage heroines (Marianne and Elinor) must each learn to navigate through a life where status and money govern the rules of love.

Sense and Sensibility is written with all the hallmarks of Jane Austen’s style, providing strong female protagonists, great irony and wit, and showcasing her superb talent for character creation and dialogue. And Focus Features is the premier distributor of excellent art house films.

(view spoiler). The film is scheduled to be released by Focus Features in the United States on September 11, 2026, and is also scheduled to be released by United International Pictures (UIP) in the United Kingdom on September 25.

Audiobook Duration: 11 hrs and 25 mins

Who's in for a BR and discussion of the book? We will most definitely be comparing earlier adaptations and our favorite Austen (who recently celebrated her 250th birthday, 12/16/2025) book and characters.
