Valerie | 280 comments I could have also used this for book turned into a movie, or for a book that came out the year I was born, but I thought this would be a good one for this category.

First off, for anyone who has not read this...it is WAY different than the movie. There are major differences in the story line, and in the characters.

The biggest difference is in the fact that the major character is French. It was originally written in French, hence, why this book falls into this category. The second is that it does NOT end the same way as the original movie. Some reviews on Amazon were disappointed in this, but, having read the book, I am not surprised that the ending would be different.

One thing about this book is obvious. The author is making a statement in regards to animals used in research, and the humanity of it. It was very thought provoking, and I can imagine back in 1963, that this was even more evocative.

Since this was written before the advent of our own moon launches, and discoveries of space, the science at times is dated, but still enjoyable when one takes it into context of the time.

All in all, I enjoyed the book, and glad I chose it.
