Go For It - Volunteering Adventures on Roads Less Traveled (Boomers 'Adventures, #2)

Book Description:

This book is for people who would like to know what it’s like to volunteer and live in a less developed country, as well as for readers who enjoy biographies, travel, love stories and adventure.

This is the second book in the “Boomer’s Adventures” trilogy. It covers the seven year period after Alastair left Canada’s far north to go overseas and become an International Development volunteer.

His first memoir, “Awakening in the Northwest Territories,” is about the first sixty years of his life: growing up in England, emigrating to Canada by himself at the age of 19 etc. etc., but the core of the story and the “awakenings” he writes about take place in a remote First Nations community on Great Slave Lake.

After he left the north, he met Candas, fell in love, and with a shared passion for life, they set off together on a new path of travel and adventure. They shed their material possessions and comfortable Canadian lifestyle to volunteer with local non-governmental organizations in Jamaica and Guyana, and in between assignments, backpacked extensively throughout Central America and S. E. Asia on roads less traveled.

Bearing witness to the poorest of the poor on the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh to climbing to the top of Kaiteur Falls in Guyana, they realized that there are moments and places in life that need an audience and should be shared. What they did, where they went and what they saw, while helping enhance the lives of others, deepened their understanding of the world and ignited a desire to continue living examined and purposeful lives.

They’ve shared their experiences, adventures and learnings in "Go For It - Volunteering on Roads Less Traveled," in the hope that that other Boomers will be inspired by their journey to “GO FOR IT” and experience their own adventures on roads less traveled.

The third and final memoir in the trilogy: "Go For It - Budget Backpacking for Boomers" will be published later this year
