Since some of you are already practicing this Spy skill I figured why not give this cool skill it's very own topic!

I just learned my brother has been picking locks for 2 years and has a big collection of locks and picks. So I'll get one of his practice sets on Thursday. :)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments Oo, I'm already in love with this topic!!!
And Renée you're soooooooo lucky you have someone personally teaching you lock picking!! I have picked a few locks in my house, but it takes so much time and it leaves my fingers sore! And most of the time I give up before I mange to pick it! I don't even have real picks! I use hair pins and paper clips! It's annoying!
I WISH JANCO WERE HERE!!!

I guess my lil bro is my Janco ;)

He's loaning me a lock that's open so you can see the pins.

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments O MY GOD THATS AWESOME!!! I wish I had a lil brother. How old is your brother?
And you really have to give me a few tips when you learn!

He's 25... And hasn't been little since his grow spurt ;) But he'll always be my lil bro :)

Ofc I'll post my progress!

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments I still think you are Verrrrrrrrry lucky to get a person to teach you personally

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments You are so lucky!! I still can't quite do it! I just need someone to show me rather than reading about it and watching it on youtube.
I have a set of picks but I might buy one of those see through locks as well.

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments p.s. I love that this has its own topic!

message 9: by Ileana (last edited Apr 22, 2015 05:58AM) (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments I'm also thinking if getting a see through lock, but I don't know where to get one. I'm also thinking of learning how to scale walls like Janco, though it'll take a lot of time to become as good as him. If only he was here to teach me both those skills!

message 10: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
Lol scaling walls would just result in hurting myself, so Im staying away from that ;)

message 11: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments yeah, I'm good looking at walls. as for the lock: Amazon

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments Thanks for the link, but it doesn't ship to where I live so... :(
But thanks anyway, I'll just look in a few shops that might have it.
Btw, quick question: who's locks are you planing on picking after you become professionals?

message 13: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments my own, I wouldn't survive the slammer

Becky | 500 comments also where do you live?

My brother just send me the (according to him) best youtube lockpick instruction videos:

"(404) Attacking Locks (For Beginners)" on YouTube - https://youtu.be/R2r07NN21vM

"12 - Lockpicking: The Basic Idea" on YouTube - 12 - Lockpicking: The Basic Idea: https://youtu.be/TmhQ1la6Lgw

Diary of a Lockpicker.

It was a friday morning. I used my chromecast to stream "Locks: Basic operation and manipulation" by Shuyler Towne on the TV and installed myself on the couch with my brother's picks and locks, and with my brother on Whatsapp to guide me through it.

After watching the first few videos I gave it a try. It took me a while to get all the pins up. But even when I had them all lined up I still couldn't open the lock... And after a few tries I learned why: I tried to turn the wrench THE WRONG WAY! lol! Rookie mistake! XD
After that revelation I picked the lock pretty fast and after that I could even pick it without looking!

I loved it! It's so cool to just pick a lock! Can't wait to try the next lock. :)

message 18: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments PICK IT WITHOUT LOOKING!!??!! THATS SO COOL!! I'm so jealous!!

message 19: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
The 'open' lock is amazing for practice! You'd defenitly get one if you can!

message 20: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments hmm...maybe I am turning it the wrong way...but I can never seem to get all the pins up

message 21: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
It took me a while too. Just keep practicing!

message 22: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments The lock I'm practicing on needs the last pin to go up first, I can never manage to do that. Iv started on a new lock now though, I hope I make it.

message 23: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments I might try that then, putting the last pin up first

message 24: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments How's the lock picking going? I've had to stop for a bit because of how it might look at my new job

message 25: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
Hehe yeah I took a break too. I didnt improve and it frustrated me ;)

message 26: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments Me too...

I'm thinking of restarting now though!

message 28: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments Lol, I don't blame you!!! This skill is so useful!! Plus it makes me feel slightly like a spy XD!!!!

message 29: by Avy ❄️ (new)

Avy ❄️ (justanotherhopelessromantic) | 18 comments Yes exactly!! Lol

message 31: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments Random question (didn't know where else to put it):

Has anyone watched Natflix's new programme Jessica Jones? Because it is essentially the plot of Graceling by Kristin Cashore! Super strong woman and a man who can control people with what he says. It is freaking me out!

message 32: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments (We've taken "off the topic" to a new level XD)
Im sorry but i havnt watched it... Ive been very busy with exams and stuff, so all my 'social life' things have been put on hold...
Ill check it out once my exams are done though!! Cant wait!! I'll finally be free!!

message 33: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments Good luck! Have you read Graceling? Because David Tennant is Leck. And he is amazing at it!!

message 34: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments :D Thanks!!
I havnt read it, but its on my 'to read' list!!! I'll read once exams are over...
I've heard a lot of good things about it!!!

message 35: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments It is amazing! Not as good as Poison Study, but then nothing really is!

We should rename the forum to: off topic loves and some MVS stuff.... ;)

But Im definitly gonna watch! Havent had time yet though. But is it really that alike? Thats scary! XD

message 38: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments I think only the first few posts in a topic ever actually follow the topic name!!
It's actually really fun!! Going off topic! I like tracking how we went from topic to topic :p!

message 39: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments Well you guys are the only ones who seem to read the same books as me, and answer posts! Not my fault if I sometimes need to discuss something of literary importance!

And the first few episodes are kind of similar. It is set in modern new York and they are depicted as super heroes, but the main guy is like Leck in modern day! Even the whole it wares off after a while and he needs to keep verbally putting people under his power.

message 40: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
Cool. Cant wait :)

message 41: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments ok, so now its not quite so similar! But I am on episode 10.

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
What are you guys reading at the moment. I'm trying to finish a chicklit for bookclub next week....The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing I HATE CHICKLITS...

message 43: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments Im not currently reading anything...
Mostly just rereading stuff because of exams...
I reread the Healer series yesterday! As good as always!!

message 44: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments ergh! me too! I'm reading Princep's Fury by Jim Butcher. Its the fifth book in a series of six and it is awesome!!! And I didn't pay a penny for any of them, my brother in law got them off of his best friend who didn't like them so they came to me :D free books!!

message 45: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) | 620 comments Mod
Cool :) Im rereading (well actually listening) the mistborn series. Brandon Sanderson is the only writer comming close to MVS' greatness!

message 46: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments I swear one of these days I will finish that series! FIrst one was awesome, but then I got distracted

message 47: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments I've been meaning to read that series since the time you recommended it! But I never get around to doing that...
It's just that... So many books get released everyday, it's hard to finish all the books you want to! I'm gonna read that series after exams, sometime in December. Definitely. No doubt.

message 48: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments Oh I've said that so many times!

message 49: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 282 comments Maybe we can buddy read it together??

message 50: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments ooh yeah, lets do it!
