What do I read now? (spoiler alert -- but you've all read the book, right?)
What kind of books do you like?Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Historical Fiction, Non-Fiction, books for young adults, Adult books...
There's so many.
I would recommend the Sangreal Trilogy by Amanda Hemingway. It's about a boy who dreams of other worlds & can dream himself in & out of them. He's on a quest to find the 3 relics that were placed on 3 different worlds, that will come together & complete the Great Spell which will save another world & its people from utter destruction. There's a lot of magic, adventure, folklore (Arthur/Grail lore, for one), & mystery. All in all a VERY enjoyable triloy. In order the books are: The Greenstone Grail, The Sword of Straw, The Poisoned Crown. Just an FYI -they say the eff word twice throughout the entire trilogy, other than that there's no swearing ect that I recall. -Lynn
No, I mean like what kind of books are you interested in? I know of many books that are good, but people who like especially one genre might like some better than others.
I fell in love with the Harry Potter series and since I'm relatively new to fantasy (I've only read C.S. Lewis, Tolkien and now J.K. Rowling) I wondered what to do now that Voldemort is dead.I love English Major types of things and am a huge Charlotte Bronte & Jane Austen fan but am branching out into fantasy.
Thanks for asking!
There are some groups on Goodreads that might help you... in fact there is a fantasy group that you might want to check out for suggestions.
I suggest the 'Crown Of Stars' series by Kate Elliot. She is probably the writer who has most influenced my own writing style. The series is long--7 volumes!--but well worth it. The first book is 'King's Dragon'. The main story involves two lovers, both not entirely human, and the joining together of a world that has been torn apart by a powerful magical spell. The story is far too complex to fully describe here, though. You might also try any of Terry Brook's series. I dedicated my first published novel to him.
You should read some Star Wars novels. (Yes, I LOVE Star Wars, it is AWESOME.):D
You might want to read Eragon and Eldest if you haven already. They are really good and the third book in the Trilogy is coming out in Sept.
You always think that Nick. ;) I agree that the Terry Brookes series is very good. It is good, discriptive fantasy, like Lord of the Rings.
If you really like fantasy books I suggest you read the inheart series written by Cornelia Funke. It is a trilogy and if you liked harry potter I think you'll like this as well. The movie is due in 2009 and apart from the inkheart series she's written other books as well such as- the thief lord and the dragon rider series. The dragon rider series is good as well and if you like inkheart i suggest you try it as well.
Tamora Peirce is always a godd author to read! i LOVE her books! they're fantasy/adventure, with a bit of romance one in a while!
my li'l sister is obsessed with percy jackson; i've not read it yet but it's a modern day fantasy about greek mythology... a great fantasy author that i like is patrick carman, i adore his "land of elyon" series. i have also recently dixcovered a series called "crystal doors" it is quite good. the second book is called "ocean realm" and the third is "sky realm" you should check them out!
My son's favorite post-Potter book so far is The Witches of Dredmoore Hollow (which just came out last month I think) by Riford McKenzie. There's magic, mystery, humor, etc., set in 1920's new england. We read it together twice. He also liked Horns & Whiskers by Joseph Helgerson, which has a wistful magical folk tale charm.
you could i s'pose... but there's a lot of great suggestions above for those of us in Potter withdrawal... hehU
I vote for The Book of Lost Things by John Connoley. It is not a series book, but I smimply Adore this book.It is about a young boy named David and his love for books. His Mother dies and he and his father are left to fend for themselves. Well, his father eventually meets a lady and when David's father tells him that they are together, David faints. This is of significance because it was after his first fainting spell that he begins to hear the books whispering and talking.
I have recommended this book to almost everyone I know. They have all loved it :D I have personally gotten at least 5 people to read it.
"Topic: What do I read now?"I think everyone here loves a good series, especially when you really care for the characters and grow with them as the story progresses.
Luckily, there's a new one out called Constellation Chronicles that was released in December of 2008 ( http://www.constellationchronicles.com )! Here's a brief synopsis as described on the back cover of the first book:
"Come fly away and join the quest!
A blinding fireball rips across the night sky and slams into a field in the remote town of Rigel, New Mexico. Glenn Sawyer, a broke and disillusioned 18-year-old, witnesses and investigates the crash, finding a surreal craft and an even stranger monkey-like creature named Paako, who secretly follows him home and stirs trouble. As Glenn captures Paako and attempts to return her to the crash site, he discovers unexpected company, and learns that his remarkable journey—filled with adventure, evil, and cast of captivating characters—has only just begun."
Check it out sometime and enjoy!
Happy Holidays!
Well Vincent. It depends if that is all you want to read about Harry Potter. There are numerous books on Amazon.com that have companion books of sorts about Harry Potter, trivia, the deadly hollows etc. Some written by the Author and some written by others. The Tales of Beedle the Bard for one. Harry, a History: The true story of a Boy Wizard, his fans and life inside the HP Phenom. This is not written by J K, but she does a forward in it. Their are others as well. Check them out.
I like the fake Harry Potter website. I mean I know it's not JK but the fake book 7 is probably my fave. lol.
Oh, and if you are looking for a good series, I vote for the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix. The first book is called Mister Monday. Each of the books/characters are a day of the week and they represent one of the 7 deadly sins.
It is a very good series, and so far there are only 6 books out, from Monday to Saturday. I cant wait till Sunday comes out ^.^
I only visit reality when I am done reading. wrote: "I like the fake Harry Potter website. I mean I know it's not JK but the fake book 7 is probably my fave. lol. "Yeah, the fake stuff is pretty funny.
Some of it seems like the authors are trying to fool readers into thinking that it's really written by Rowling.
Well "The Seventh Horcrux" came out a few months before the release of The Deathly Hallows. And there are so many things in that version that are the same a whole lot of people think that writer is JK.... who knows
The Song of the Lioness is a good series. It's by Tamora Pierce. Then there's The Immortals series, also by her. It adds onto the Song of the Lioness. Anything by Shannon Hale is good. And Gail Carson Levine.

OMG I adore that book, even if it isn't YA.
You could read the Mortal Instruments trilogy, by Cassandra Clare. I have just read the first book (City of Bones), and I really liked it. I highly recommend it.
Well, I've just started reading a new series. I'm not sure what the name of the series is, but the first two books in it are called Gone and Hunger. In it, everyone over the age of 15 disappears from a small beach town in southern California, and some kind of wall forms around the town, centering around the local nuclear power plant. The kids in the town start to develop powers, and some of them develop the powers even before the adults disappear. The kids from the the local private school for troubled kids (where rich parents send their pyschopathic children) take control of the town. Animals begin to mutate, and the food supply is eventually going to run out. And finally, once you reach your 15th birthday, you disappear too. It's a very intense book with a lot of action. The violence is much more than is found in the Harry Potter series, although it may be harder to read because it all happens between kids under 15. One of the really interesting bits of the book is that each chapter has a countdown to the main character's 15th birthday.
I haven't finished it yet, but I absolutely love it. I've been reading it almost non-stop since I started it.
I read the first of those books, Gone, and I really liked it!! I really want to read Hunger

i LOVE Shannon Hale's goose girl series. although i have yet to read forest born. gail carson levine is another of my favorite authors.
another great author is Meg Cabot- she wrote the princess diaries series. i wish i had access to more of her books
I've read almost all of Meg Cabot's YA books, I really like them!
I reccomend a series about a kid who is the so of Poseidon, the god of the sea, and he meets a daughter of Athena and does these quests. It is the Percy Jackson and the Olympiansseries. It is a lot like Harry Potter, because of three main things: 1.) Percy ages through the books, 2.)He has a summer birthday, and 3.) He has a friend that is a boy and a friend that is a girl. ( by the way don't expect a human for a friend for friend that is a boy.)
I love that series! It's called Percy Jackson and the Olympians. There are five books in the series, and they are all so funny! The first book in The Lightning Thief.
Hey!! I put the series name in the first comment. Plus, the second third fourth and fifth are The Sea of Monsters, The Titans Curse, The Battle of the Labrynth, and The las Olympian. They are making a move of the Lightning Thief, though I hear that the person who is playing Annabeth is 18 years old!! And they only picked her because she had grey eyes!
That movie is bothering me so much! Have you seen the trailer? I really, really am condsidering strangling Chris Columbus. He did a good job casting Luke though. The person playing him looks very close to how I pictured Luke, who is my absolute favorite character.

I was saving the last book until I had been very good and gotten some of my own writing finished and sent out. As I was reading Deathly Hallows, I wanted to read it slowly -- took me about two weeks -- because it was so rich I couldn't "eat" more than a couple of bites at a time -- wanted to savor those plot points for as long as I could. Plus, not having finished it was like having access to a huge chocolate bar (no, I'm not actually overweight but I do love chocolate!) that I could taste whenever I wanted to.
What a great book! I adored the entire series and this book wrapped up everthing so beautifully. I especially loved the truth about Snape -- after the end of book six, I kept expressing my utter astonishment that he was actually a bad guy. She exercised some amazing self-control in those conversations, although she did spill the beans one day last summer about Fred Weasley, the 7th horcrux and the demise of Voldemort. Oh well, we were waiting to greet guests at the Hemningway museum and she was bored and couldn't bear to keep those items inside.:)
My question is this: what do I read now? I would like to re-read the series, but you know that it's never quite the same when you know the ending.
Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
Kathryn
