I love Cinderella and I am all about retellings.
A while back, when it was on sale, I bought Ash but held off on reading it because I don't like to read while I'm writing.

I started this book last night and finished it quickly. It's not long, but I'll admit, in the beginning it sure felt like it was.
Now I already said I like Cinderella stories, but what I DON'T like is when it's marketed or presented that way, massive amounts of story time being dedicated to the early parts of the tale. The parts that MAKE it most closely a Cinderella story. You know. Mother dies, father is sad, father remarries, father dies, step mom is awful, step sisters are too.
While I understand this story had a lot of groundwork to lay for the fairies and mystical aspects, I felt it spent too much time with Ash as a child. Once she was older things felt much more steadily paced and the descriptions of everything felt more clear and less dragged out.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. I would have liked just a little more closure with some parts, but it did leave me satisfied.
