(view spoiler)[The opening chapters grabbed my interest right away. The post-Civil War setting feels harsh and I'm already invested in Coleman and June's story. I don't know about Turow...setting that horse's tail on fire! That really upset me! Ugh...and why is Florence's mother's trunk "saved" when her mother wasn't? I'm super glad Oliver is OK though, being the dog lover that I am! lol
At this point I'm more engaged in Coleman's story, but I think I'm gong to get into June's more as Coleman and Florence take off and look for her. (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[What a predicament they're in now! The Turlow brothers are creepy and, evidently, maybe even worse criminals that I thought. At this point they deserve to be in shackles.
I felt so awful when Chavez had Oliver taken for his little girl, but at least (I hope) Oliver is going to be a pet and not eaten or something. But I was so sad for Olive and Coleman. I would DIE if someone took my Daisy girl and gave her to someone who I had no idea how they'd treat her. (hide spoiler)]
