I read The Lovely Bones a few years ago and really liked it and I just watched the preview. It looks very similar to the book with some artistic differences I think everyone who has read the book will appreciate it. I'm really excited for the movie to come out and I was just curious if anyone else has seen the preview and what you think?

The book is soo fantastic! I cried buckets!! Definitely looking forward to the movie, I saw the preview a few days ago when I went to see New Moon, it look great!
Jo, you really ought to read this one. It's very good and yes, you might cry buckets of tears. Sooo good.Yeah, the preview does look amazing and I like the artistic liberties they took with the movie. I also really love the actress they chose to play her. Her big blue eyes always look so sad and lovely. Can't wait for this to come out.

Jo wrote: "I might read it before then but i will certainly chat with you about it as it will be fairly fresh in my memory."I`ll get in touch after reading it,hope we both enjoy it..
I've read The lovley bones a couple years back and just the trailer brought new tears to my eyes. I don't know if I could watch the movie unless in my own home. Otherwise I need a box of kleenex and I'd look pretty funny walking in with a big ole box. I should have been more prepared at the movie Marley and me actually that movie tore me up and it happens right at the end then bam the movie is over and the lights all turn on and I was trying to get myself put back together before I had to walk out jez!
There are parts that made me tear up but I don't remember crying too much while reading. I guess it depends on if I was PMSing while I read it....LOL!
Saad it was a unsettling book but it was unique and good read. Its one of those books people are gonna love or hate I think.
I liked the book. Karla said it best when she described it as "unsettling." As a mother, I have a hard time with books that deal with crimes against children. All in all, a good read. I definitely plan on seeing the movie.
Thanks Sarah, I liked the book too and liked the end but wished for justice to be served swifter. That's life though. The trailer for this movie looks as if they followed the way I pictured the characters to a T! The actress playing Susie Salmon is so beautiful and has haunting eyes.
Levi it's about a little girl that is killed and it it from her point of view from Heaven if I remember correctly. I read it a few years back and didn't really like it, just because of the fact of how she died.
Hmmm, I'll try and check it out tomarrow.
I just saw the trailer and I'm so excited for this movie! I loved the book and I've always liked Peter Jackson's work. I may have to re-read the book so that it's fresh in my memory. I really like the girl who plays Susie Salmon. I've only seen her in Atonement but she did a wonderful job of that role.
Is Atonement a sad story or uplifting I haven't read the synopses on it yet. Ill have to look into it more.
It's mostly sad but there's a bit of both in there. I don't really want to say too much and give it away. It's definitely worth a read! :)
I just watched Mt sisters keeper and bawled my sinus's clear. I didn't know I could cry through a whole movie till I watched that one!
Let me know when you want to read Atonement if you want a reading buddy. My pal sent it to me and I'd like to read it next year.
Hi Saad and Karla,if you plan on reading ATONEMENT would it be possible for me to join you?As I loved the film(it haunted me for weeks on many levels)and I have been putting off the book in case it spoil the film for me....
Hmmm, Atonement... does that movie star Keira Knightly?
I thought so... and she's pretty, not my version of hot, to skinny...
Thanks Levi.I get glared at when I say she is too skinny and a friend tells me that it is because I am too fat(I'm a UK size 10,which I think is actually a healthy weight!).I do not think she is a good role model for young girls ........
Saad wrote: "Hi DJ yeah sure let's make a group and we can discuss start dates! Hopefully we can all read along and discuss the book at the end of each week. I agree...Keira is a bit too slim but it seems to be her natural build. I'm kind of small myself and that's the only reason why I'm sticking up for her... there's a difference. There are people liek Angelina Jolie, where she is obvously not eating well (she was more gorgeous when she had more weight on her and now she looks like a lolipop) and people like Keira...where she just seems to be naturally slim. Like, I bet she eats well but is not on some crazy diet and she is who she is. There's too skinny and there's too big...both are unhealthy. It should really be about eating healthfully and getting your recommended caloric intake on a daily basis. I hope I don't sound too preachy but I come from a family of heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes...it's an important topic for me...
I can't wait to see the movie...Karla, I think I will bring one of those little kleenex travel size thingies. I really liked the story and yes, Saad, it really made me think (and still does). It also made me a little more paranoid about the people who live around me. :\ But now, as a result of the movie and other incidents, I never leave the house without saying a simple goodbye and I never leave in anger.
Did anyone else make any changes in their lives as a result of reading this book?
I'm not saying she's anorexic by any means I assumed that was her natural build, it's just that she is somewhat skinnier for my taste.
Saad, there had been pictures of her where the media called her -too- skinny but that must have been in 2005 or something, I haven't seen anything recently of her either. I assume she is under at a healthy weight.
And that's right it Jessica, it's all about a healthy and various diet. AND getting the right amount of exercise!

Yes, I believe a thread has been started. :) I look forward to joining that conversation once I pick up my copy from the bookstore this weekend. Have you already read it?
Yes, it is all about balance (when it comes to your health). :) Well said.
By the by, what does everyone think of the casting job done for ther Lovely Bones? A lot of big names! I was surprised! I quite like the people chosen for each of the parts...thoughts?
Kaliki, I saw you found the link but just in case, for other who are interested in reading and discussing Atonement, here is the link. Saad was kind enough to start a thread for the book! Please come join us!http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...
Jo wrote: "I agree that it looks like a normal build for her but it will still make other girls feel fat. Its not her fault though. People should concentrate more on health than size though. Agreed."
Well said :)
It's funny because I love books and my brother loves movies and this is one of those times when we can have a normal converstation. HE said that Jake Jilenhall (SP?) was supposed to play the Dad but he was too "complicating" so they went with Marky Mark (sorry I couldn't help it). They released the movie in Dec. as promised but only in a selected few areas and it got such bad reviews that they pushed it to January! I am sure Jake is laughing now!Me, I hated the book! I was sooooo mad that I wasted my time reading it and I am sorry if I offend anyone. Everyone is entitled to their own decision right? There are a lot of books that I love that people hate that is why we all love GR!
I still will see the film when NEtflix gets it only because i like to see how things are portrayed.
THX Saad! Who knows what I am going to do. I Wanted to see the film but as you say, I doubt I could pull thru it!
Saad wrote: "I just saw this film and well although there was nothing wrong with it's portrayal I just failed to get excited by it. Infact at the half way point I even started to get a little bored. I just thin..."I heard something very similar from a few friends who have seen the movie. I have decided not to watch it...I may not even rent it. We'll see. I loved the book too much to see it not done well. Thank you Saad!
I haven't read it yet but this thread has me torn here is it a love it or hate it style? I'm pushing my way through The Historian right now its a bit dreary and dull but has potential to be a good book we will see.
I liked the Historian but I am interested to know what you think of the ending. I have my opinions but I won't want to sway yours since you have not gotten there yet. As for the lOvely Bones. THere were definitely moments I would like to have seen cut from the book but I enjoyed it as a whole. THe writing is somewhat whimisical at places and at others it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I don't know if you would love the book but I think it is worth reading. :) That probably doesn't help to clarify the group's opinion, all though, judging from what I've read from others, the book is highly recommended.
I really liked The Historian but as you said Jessica, there are parts to BOTH books that could have been cut!
Donna wrote: "I really liked The Historian but as you said Jessica, there are parts to BOTH books that could have been cut!"totally agree! I would list them but then there would be spoilers. :\
I think I follow you gals on The Historian here O.ODid you all like the end to The lovely Bones? I was thinking about it the other day how it really veered into an unusual direction with her not she had a crush on and the girl she went through. u also thought the sink hole was odd to read about but it still held me and kept me interested.
The part of Lovely Bones that really set me over the edge was the whole "Ghost" scene!!!! Gosh That made me so angry!
Isn't it funny how the release date is nw January?!!??Here is the link of the trailer from Borders
