Play Book Tag discussion

Mary Roach turns her enthusiastic curiosity to the area of medicine dedicated to replacing pieces of the human anatomy. Coverage includes eyes, hearts, kidneys, skin, hair, noses, prosthetics and, surprisingly, sexual organs. Roach writes with her usual humor which makes unpleasant topics a bit easier to take. Some of the subject matter remains way over my head especially the 3-D printing of organs; I can't seem to understand how that all works, but fortunately it does. There is a good deal of discussion involving experimentation on animals which made me very uncomfortable. In chapter dealing with mechanical breathing, or intubation, Roach actually allowed herself to be enclosed in an iron lung, the life-saving machines from the 50's. She did not last long within the metal shell but I wouldn't have even gotten in. Anyway, it's all very interesting stuff from an endlessly entertaining author.
