Lily (liedeweijkgmailcom) | 13 comments Hi guys! What is the most important for you in a book? Character or plot if you had to choose one? This is such a difficult question for me!

tae (hiatus) | 2 comments plot

.⋆♱ Jasper. ✮ ⤷ ゛on hiatus ˎˊ˗ | 44 comments characters cause what if its like a slice of life book or something more mundane those books kinda rely on good characters. besides I've seen a lot of media where the plot is kinda shitty but the characters were amazingly well written.

F. P. | 78 comments I generally prefer character-driven fiction. But, it depends, like I've always liked both Agatha Christie's and Sidney Sheldon's books, and their books are usually plot-driven.

By the way, I've sometimes performed this test in my head: if I can replace the characters in a book with new ones, and it mostly reads the same, that book is probably plot-driven; if I can replace the plot in a book with a new one, and it mostly reads the same, that book is probably character-driven.

Lucy Noelle definitely characters because it keeps me interested and invested in the story but if it's a plot-centered book with good characters but bad plot then i prolly won't read it

Kaylee Souter | 188 comments PLOT! Plot makes a character, its shapes who they are without a plot there is no character just a person. And a character without a plot is like a character without a life… soo I pick plot

iseul | 4 comments characters for me. i love me a good plot but my reason for reading is finding a bit of company and comfort in knowing that the way that i am is okay.. mental health struggles, a colder personality, and personal issues—although plot shapes the character, im at a point in my life where im struggling w who i am as an aftermath of some events.

Miriam Nielsen | 27 comments Characters because I like to know what the characters are thinking. I need to feel the characters!

KitKatt | 43 comments Characters... I think a subpar plot can be excused if the characters are written properly...

Sylvia P | 6 comments Ohhh this is a good one. I'd say plot.

Alina ♡ ✍︎ ⋆.˚ ☾⭒.˚ | 10 comments Most of the time the characters drive the plot. Without the characters the book is just lifeless and I live for the emotion of the book.

Chuck Locklear | 8 comments I love a good plot, that makes it a story worth reading. If the author can add a lovable character, even better.

Lilac Books (lilacbooks) | 12 comments I think that both are REALLY important because if you don't have a good plot then the story is boring. Same goes for the characters. Sorry if I actually had to choose only one😶

Laika Lee | 5 comments Plot?
Or characters?
For the vast majority of novels, characters are the plot, and the plot is the characters.
The plot is the tool that exposes the true nature of the characters; the author designs the plot simply to let readers know what kind of people the characters are.
