Hi Stephanie! What did you think about The Last King of Scotland? Would you recommend it?

And on a completely unrelated side note: I noticed on your profile that you are interested in gluten-free things...if you are a fellow Celiac, hello!! :)

Stephanie I really enjoyed Last King of Scotland. I liked the movie a lot, too, and the book is different enough to keep the story interesting and suspenseful.

Yup, I'm a celiac! Hello!

Stephanie 6. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

I forgot that I read this one, too. It sure feels like I've read a lot more than 6 books this year.

Stephanie 8. Cotton: The Biography of a Revolutionary Fiber by Stephen Yafa

I plan on writing a review of this later. I was so bored by the end I have to distance myself from it for a bit.

Stephanie 9. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

This was entertaining, but not as sensual and compelling as the hype made it seem. I gave the movie 3 stars for the same reason.

Stephanie 10. Gorillas in the Mist by Dian Fossey

This was amazing. I don't remember much of the movie and I have to rewatch it now. I'm moving to East Africa in a few months and plan to visit the park in Rwanda to see the gorillas as soon as I have the opportunity.

Stephanie 11. Girls in Pants by Ann Brashares

This was easy train reading. I didn't read as much on my vacation as I'd hoped, but I met my minimum of finishing one book (Gorillas) completely reading one book (Girls in Pants) and starting a new book (Dark Star Safari).

Stephanie 12. Dark Star Safari by Paul Theroux

It took me a month to read this! At this rate I'll barely make it to 25.

It was a great book though. Excellent travelogue of an African adventure. Gave me some ideas of what to do (and not do) while I'm in Africa.

Stephanie 21. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

This was a re-read for me. I think I liked it even more now than I did when I first read it in college.

Stephanie 22. Trespass by Valerie Marin

The story was entertaining enough and it was a quick read. I found the characters a bit flat, though.

Stephanie 23. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Not the best choice when you're trying to read a certain number of books in a certain time frame. But I'd never read it before so thought I'd give it a try. I really liked it!

Now on to shorter, lighter reads for a while.

Stephanie I'm halfway there!

25. The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent

Stephanie 26. The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell

Phew, just passed the halfway mark. I'm almost finished with another that I'm aiming to complete by the end of the year. I want to start the new year with a new list.
