Héctor

It is in the Museum of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in Klin, Russia. Great, Jeanne!!

Jeanne (jeanne_voelker) | 61 comments Ah, Tchaikovsky has a small companion for conversation and lunch, but he steadfastly stays with his reading. Wonderful photo!

Jeanne (jeanne_voelker) | 61 comments I love the Symphony No.5 for its beauty
and Symphony No.6 makes me cry.

BTW, how does everyone here pronounce Tchaikovsky's name? My daughters piano teacher, Mrs. Gloria Parnitski PhD., Moscow Conservatory, always says it like 'Tchee kov sky' with the accent on the middle syllable, as you would expect. I got used to hearing it and saying it with this pronunciation, but when I pronounce it her way in Seattle, I get funny looks.

Richard (fantasyfangr) | 33 comments I think the most wonderful performances of the final three symphonies of Tchaikovsky are those of the Leningrad Phil. Orch. with Evgeny Mravinsky. they are just beyond any recording of these that I have ever heard. I read a review in "Gramophone" that puts my feelings into words:

"These recordings are landmarks not just of Tchaikovsky interpretation but of recorded orchestral performances in general. TheLeningrad Philharmonic plays like a wild stallion, only just held in check by the willpower of its master. Every smallest movement is played with fierce pride; at any moment it may break into such a frenzied gallop that you hardly know whether to feel exhilarated or terrified."

If you like those last great symphonies, it is worth getting this interpretation of them.

I love his fifth and sixth symphonies immensely, but I've not heard those interpretations/recordings. I'll go search for them. Thanks!

Richard (fantasyfangr) | 33 comments Erik, they are available in the iTunes store for instant download. The complete set is €13,99 over here. The quality is excellent but the CDs would still have an edge in sound.

Erik F. | 13 comments I'm listening right now! Stunning. I've noticed several lovely nuances that other conductors/symphonies tend to overlook or underthink.

I think Tchaikovsky was more than a composer, he was also an artist.

Shuhan [On Leave] (Inyourclosetinyourhead) Somehow, I suddenly felt drawn to him, in love with him last week!!!

LobsterQuadrille Tchaikovsky is one of my favorite composers. I especially love his Sleeping Beauty Waltz and Symphony No. 1(the second movement is incredibly gorgeous!). His music will always have a special place in my heart.

Richard (fantasyfangr) | 33 comments He was the first classical composer I heard and he remains a favourite of Mine!
