Alycia | 236 comments I am currently reading Outlander and am 1/3 the way through it (I am past the point of the wedding and consummation) and am loving this book so much I am looking to discuss it even though I am not done. I am not adverse to spoilers, I will eventually catch up :)

message 2: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments For me the book started on Claire and Jamie's wedding day! You are in for such a treat it only gets better and Jamie only gets hotter! Enjoy your reading.

message 3: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments Thanks so much Kelly! I have been waiting for the romance to start even though I could guess that they like each other. I am so glad to hear that Jamie gets hotter and hotter!!! Can't wait.

message 4: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (funlovinlady) I found that I really started loving "Outlander" about the same time that Kelly did. I found it hard to follow who was who. And the whole "Black Jack" kissing Claire thing, really through me off.
Also, I liked how Jamie was there, but until he proclaims his virginty, you (or at least I) didn't really think of him as the leading man.

message 5: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments I agree with you, Leslie about Jamie not being a leading man until his proclimation. He is mow thankfully stepping in to that roll. I have not gotten much farther than the few days after the wedding... I didn't have a chance to read yesterday. Was "black Jack" captain Randall who tried on the beginning to rape Claire? Heis a good villain, I do not like him at all. Suspense and worry follows his character.

Kelly | 235 comments BJR is one of the best Villians of all time. Keep reading....

I can believe it Kelly. I sure do hate him so far, I will definitely keep reading!

message 8: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments I sure hope Laoghaire gets her comeuppance!!! I am at the beginning of the witch trial where Claire happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I sure hope Jamie saves her soon!!!

message 9: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments I am so glad that Jamie rescued Claire and even more happy and love him more that he believed her after she told him the truth about herself and the time travel!!

message 10: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments One of the best lines is when Jamie tells Claire it would have been easier if she had been a witch! I love Jamie's wit! Oh you will hate Ms. Leghair (as some call her) for a long time.

message 11: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments Yes, I have read that. I shed tears when Jamie left her by the rocks to return to her old life. I am so glad that she picked Scotland and Jamie!!! His statements of wanting to be her to stay and all the while he was praying he wouldn't break down and beg her, made me love him even more. He has to be one of the best hero's I have ever come across! Yeah I still hate "Leghair" and I wonder how and when she comes back into the story.

message 12: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments Well don't forget you have 6 more books to read. Yes DG has done us all in. I will never find another man that I love more than Jamie Fraser. (So happy my husband doesn't check out my Good reads) lol. Your heart is in for one heck of a roller coaster ride.

message 13: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments Haha! Luckily my husband is supportive of my reading addiction and love of fictional men. :) I am sure I am in for a roller coaster ride! My emotions are totally feeling the effects. I can't wait to finish Outlander so I can start Dragonfly in Amber!

message 14: by Cynthia (new)

Alycia,
I am single woman and I have to say, that after reading these books and falling in love with Jamie...it's really hard to date "present day" men...most just don't measure up! I am pathetic!!
Oh well...

Alycia | 236 comments Cynthia wrote: "Alycia wrote: "Haha! Luckily my husband is supportive of my reading addiction and love of fictional men. :) I am sure I am in for a roller coaster ride! My emotions are totally feeling the effects...."

No you are not pathetic at all! While we love fictional men because they are perfect it helps when being selective of real men. :) Maybe that is why we love fictional men so much? They may have flaws but they become perfect for their loves. My husband understands my love of fictional men, maybe just somewhat, but specifically Mr. Darcy, Edward (although he has been replaced), The Black Dagger Brotherhood (he knows less about this obsession), and now Jamie. I was talking to him the other night about Outlander and Jamie and that, I may have mentioned it earlier in this thread, but he is one of the best if not the best written hero ever. I love him too and he has made me cry twice and my heart melt over and over. I am 90% of the way done with Outlander.

message 17: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments I just finished Outlander!!! :) It was amazing to say the least. I have never cried so much over one book, specifically Jamie's pain. Even though his pain in the end at the hand of Captain Randall was hard to read I couldn't put it down because I knew it would work out in the end for an HEA. I am going to write a brief review and I hope to start Dragonfly in Amber tonight!

OHHH that is great!! Each book is an emotional roller coaster! Hang on girl!! Mr.Darcy is one of my favorites also!! but Jamie is the best! I liked Dougal also...the bad boy syndrome I guess! hee hee
DIA is Fab!!

message 19: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments I did feel emotionally spent after finishing Outlander, Cynthia. Not in a bad way, but spent nonetheless. I think if a book can cause you to have many different emotions, than it is definitely worth reading! After being on GR I went on preparing for my husband and I to go out of town tomorrow, but I kept on thinking about Jamie (mostly) and about Claire and what they went through. I started DIA but only got a few pages into it. I decided I needed a day or two then I would dive right into it.

I can't make up my mind on Dougal. One minute he lets his guard down and he has considerable humanity the next I dislike him. But still, I am interested to see what happens to him and other minor characters.

I know what you mean about feeling emotionally spent after reading the books! I hate to tell ya....it continues! hehe The holidays are not a good time time to dive into the books...you will_ not_ get anything done!! OHHHH WEEEEEEL!

Alycia | 236 comments I am not surprised! Yeah, luckily I read most if not all after the start of the break, I am a teacher. I have gotten things done and do through out the year, but I always squeeze reading in when I have a free moment and I also tend to stay up way too late reading :) During summer breaks I really have lots of free time to read!

Leea | 1239 comments Finished Outlander and went right into Dragonfly in amber. I have 200 pages left and i cant stop thinking of Jamie and Claire. Like they are my oun kin!! I cant imagine reading all 7 and then reading another book again. I have a friend reading Outlander and i just want someone to confirm my addiction :)

Welcome fellow addict! :) Leea, did you enjoy DFIA just as much as Outlander? I am about 100 pages into it.

I did... It's different because you seem to know Jamie and Claire on such an intimate level. The first part tore my heart out... Just started Voyager and like the last 2 books i cant put it down. Enjoy!

message 26: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments Thanks Leea! :)

Rhonda (Weekendreader) | 6 comments Your addiction is shared! After finishing all the books and re-reading them, you will be looking for more Scottish Highlander theme books. None will be as good. I have found Veronica Wolff's books help.
Happy New Year!

message 28: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm listening to Voyager after reading it twice already. Davina Porter, the narrator does a fantastic job and I would totally recommend listening to the books also.

message 29: by Evikes (new)

Evikes | 345 comments I am also new to the series, and started reading Outlander at the beginning of Dec – I was hooked by the time they consummated their marriage. I'm already half way through DIA because I ordered the whole series as soon as Claire decided not to go back to her time and ran back down the hill to the little cottage where Jamie was waiting. I must say I share the sentiments expressed in some reviews I read... the Paris court stuff in DIA is not too exciting, and I am missing the fire and passion that was evident throughout Outlander (except for the part in DIA when Jamie stays out all night and faces Claire when he strolls in at dawn with a bite on his thigh and hickies on his neck - hahaha). It is overall a good book, but I feel like I'm waiting for something the whole time I'm reading the Paris stuff.... I must admit I did peak and know the general idea of how the book ends – the Voyager sneak peak at the back of the book did not help – and have come across a couple of spoilers on fan sites (man, I hate Lawhorie and BJR…) but there is no way I can stop now! Voyager is arriving in 2 weeks!

Alycia | 236 comments Hi Eva and welcome! :)

message 31: by Evikes (new)

Evikes | 345 comments Thank you! I'm so addicted and in love with the series! Just read a few more chapters of DIA, and OMG... he's alive?!? And how can she not let him kill the slime ball?? I think I'd kill him myslef & forget all about Frank!!

message 32: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I love these books too Eva. Outlander is my absolutely favorite book.

I had a very hard time with the fact that she would not let Jamie kill BJR. I understand her thinking but I just felt such pain for Jamie.

Alycia | 236 comments Thanks! Me too although I think I will :)

message 38: by Evikes (new)

Evikes | 345 comments I do have one question about Jamie's mother, Ellen. In Outlander, Claire mentions a couple of times that Ellen dies in childbirth; but there are also a couple of references to Jamie being "at his mother's breast" and also how Jenny and Ellen used to watch him sleep. This is mentioned again in DFIA, but I thought Jamie was the youngest? I'm a bit confused...

message 39: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (les2car) | 131 comments I believe she did die in childbirth and so did the baby. It would have been a younger sibling to Jamie.

message 40: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments Leslie wrote: "I believe she did die in childbirth and so did the baby. It would have been a younger sibling to Jamie."

I think it was a boy baby that died.

message 41: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 236 comments Weren't there four children including Jamie?

message 42: by Terri (new)

Terri Russell | 15 comments Yes, the baby that died, Jenny, and the older brother...I think his name was Willie that carved the snake and was in the picture with Jamie and the dog. With Jamie that makes 4. Hope that helps!

message 43: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Isn't it funny that Jaime's son is called Willie in Voyager when he had nothing to do with naming him? This just occurred to me.

message 44: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments Carolyn wrote: "Isn't it funny that Jaime's son is called Willie in Voyager when he had nothing to do with naming him? This just occurred to me."

I'm sure that was a plan of miss DG. Everything seems to connect.

Terri Russell | 15 comments I am justing reading it for the first time....and I love it dearly. I am in Echo about 400 pages in. I don't want it to end and I know it will be a long time before the next books comes out. I will read them again! I have been reading straight though and I think I started in October. Do you catch something everytime you read it? So much detail I know I miss things!

message 48: by Kel (new)

Kel | 19 comments I finished Echo right before Christmas and I am SO lonely now at night when I go to bed without my books to read! I have never been so enthralled with a series or characters before....I would think about them when I wasn't reading and couldn't wait to get into bed at night to find out what was going to happen next. I am so sad now that I have finished the series. I do have the Lord John series sitting on my nightstand, but got a few pages in and am SO bored with them. Do they pick up pace? Is Jamie in them at all? Without Jamie I don't know if I could get through them? Any advice? Do we have any word on when the next book after Echo will be out? I don't know how I am going to wait....this is killing me! ;)

That's impressive Renee! Really you should get a readers award for that. I love finding new series and enjoying them I also like to be caught up and in the know :) I know I can't have it both ways. But I find it encouraging if you can read the series that many times.

message 50: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments I don't know if I could read the whole book over and over because I also enjoy reading new books. But I keep Outlander and Voyager on my night table and will often read my favorite passages when I need a Jamie fix.
