I've read most of John Saul's work, most recently his latest; House of Reckoning A Novel. I find some of his work rather disturbing and somewhat realistic in that the 'good guy' definitely does NOT always win. I liken him to some of Jack Ketchum's work, though a lot of Ketchum's is based on actual events.
'House' is definitely fast paced. Unlike many of Saul's work (most notably for me Suffer the Children), I was glad to see the good guys still with us - and doing well - at the end. Classic John Saul, not for the squeamish.
Are others currently reading House of Reckoning?

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) Tom, if you want to add me as a second moderator, I can help you build this group :-) I'll help with what I can anyway but can help more as a moderator. I didn't start a John Saul group because I'm not a die-hard fan but he is one of my favorites anyway. I'm gonna read anything new he writes and I still want to go back and read some of his older titles. I gave house of Reckoning 3 stars - wasn't one of my favorites :-( My favorite John Saul book is The Manhattan Hunt Club. I also really liked The Homing. I know there are a lot of fans out there ... somewhere.

Thanks Dustin. I like some of his older stuff like Punish the Sinners and The God Project. They really creep me out, but I guess I'm twisted like that.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) What is the one with the childrens brains in a tank hooked to computers - I liked that one.

I believe that's _Shadows_.
Robin Cook did one kinda/sorta similar too; I remember being affected by a dog in that one.
Didn't Tommyknockers have a similar scene too?

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) Shadows - I think your right. I haven't read Tommmyknockers. I also stopped reading Robin Cook a few years ago.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) Tom, I added two reviews and I invited some friends :-) Now we need a picture of John Saul. By the way, you getting this group started gave me the courage to start a new Dean Koontz group - please come check it out when you get a chance. It's called Koontzland - Dean Koontz.

Jill A | 6 comments Well you got a new fan for your group. John Saul is defiantly my favorite author for right now.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) Welcome to our little group Jill :-) My favorite author is Dean Koontz. Have you read him? I was reading John Saul and everyone kept telling me to try Dean Koontz so I finally did. I am one of the moderators for the Koontzland - Dean Koontz group on goodreads. Tom is also a member. Check it out if your interested :-)

Jill A | 6 comments My Mom loves Dean Koontz, and he is on my list. She keeps telling me to start read "the brothers odd' series.

That series is called Odd Thomas. "Brother Odd" is the third book in the series :-)

They're pretty easy reads, with some very memorable characters. I would recommend reading them in order to get a feel for the characters and the overall theme.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) Anyway, back to Saul :-) I'd really like to read Suffer The Children. I've never read it and I think it was his very first wasn't it? That's the next Saul book I plan to read I think.

It was his first; the first one of his I read.

POSSIBLE SPOILER
I remember especially that the ending did not fit the stereotype most of us grew up with, where the good guy always wins.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ABOVE
