Best book club discussion

I recommend The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. It is a very long series, but it sums up human history and shows how one event can change the future of human life. It is quite an amazing read!

I recommend Stray by Rachel Vincent. I have not read this book before but i'm getting this weekend, and it would be cool to be in a group read while i'm reading it. It's sort of long and is about a girl who is a werecat.

I recommend Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. I haven't read it yet, but once I get finished with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I'm going to read it. The book's synopsis reads:
"When the NSA's invincible code-breaking machine encounters a mysterious code it cannot break, the agency calls its head cryptographer, Susan Fletcher, a brilliant and beautiful mathematician. What she uncovers sends shock waves through the corridors of power. And of course, you cannot forget The Lord of the Rings. Probably the best fantasy series ever written. It is a classic tale with an amazing writing style. I cannot do enough justice to the books in mere writing.

Evermore by Alyson Noel was ok. Someone asked if it was like Twilight. No vampires. No Twilight similarities, at least to me, but I wasn't looking to judge this book based off of another. The immortal part was a bit interesting. I also liked the development of the Ever's grief into acceptance and understanding. I wouldn't rate this book to terribly high but it was intriguing enough to have me looking for the next in the series.

I finished A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Finally, it took forever to get into. Historical fiction hits paranormal magic. Gemma Doyle is young woman in a Victorian England who oddly creates an order with a small group of new friends. Shortly after she finds out her mother was apart of the magical order as well. I couldn't believe these girls had such easy roaming around the boarding school, hmm. Another not so great but not so horrible book. Again it might be worth picking up the next in the series to see how the character grows.

I just finished reading Soulless by Gail Carriger and I love the style it is written in. Soulless was amazing. My now favorite book of 2009! I highly recommend this book.

I also just finished Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. This is the first book that I picked up by her and it most defiantly wont be the last one. Assassins, danger, different planets, and funny banter... Also highly recommend this book!

I'm now working on City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and the The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory. Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl is a historical fiction that I would recommend.

I recommend Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. It's a historical fiction book. It explains a lot of the hardships that families had to go through during segregation. I would recommend this book to anyone that is studying or has studied segregation.

I sure hope so! I liked your Uglies suggestion. Haven't read those, but a lot of people have and they say that it's a great series! Perhaps we should do another poll.

I know right! I own over 200 but that doesn't include the want to read list... A man. There will never be enough time to finish all of those books.

I know! Don't you wish you could just read everything? But there isn't enough time in the day... which is why my "to-read" list is piling up! lol.

I recommend The Princess Diaries. If you like the movies, you'll love the books. And guess what? IT'S A SERIES!! LOL :)

I recommend Crown Duel (with Court Duel) by Sherwood Smith - one of the best books ever!!! It makes you think it's just another book with a quirky heroin, but then you realize how much is actually in there, and you keep rereading it. It's got subtlety and just plain fun. Amazing book.
I also recommend the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud - very funny, tons of action and also subtle for those of us who have to have all three!
And lastly, The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. The rest of the series is just as good and it's one of my all time favorites. (all of the above are) The main character is just...indescribably awesome. :D

Not every book.. But it is sometimes nice to read a book w someone else. Sometimes I have to wait weeks for a book to come in. I have friends that don't particularly read the books I would so their recoendations are awful or I have friends that movie buffs and don't read. So, I like to look up suggestions and add them to my list if they sound interesting. How do you choose some of your books?

Friends at school, my GRs friends' bookshelves, books that I see in Books-A-Million or WalMart or Sam's. Just anywhere really. Sometimes they advertise stuff on the Internet. If I see it, I usually look it up.

Thanks! I try to keep it that way, but it doesn't always work out. Especially when I don't have enough money to get all of them; them I don't alwasys see them again.

I write down titles and authors that I see to look them up for next time. I have a notes section in my phone and a notebook at home. That way I can look up books and buy the books that the library does not carry.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I use the notepad in my phone, but I never really have to add any books because I can usually remember either the author or the book title.

Good memory. There is a book I read about 9 years ago where this girl turned into a tree to give birth. She was a nymph. The book was good. I can't remember the title of the book or the author. And I bet it was a book that was out for a while before I even got my hands on it.

Nobody has done it yet...so I recommend Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Sense and Sensibility (also by Jane Austen) is really good too.

I want to read Pride and Prejudice, but I don't have Sense and Sensibility on my TBR list. I will add it right now. :)

I really have to read something by Jane Austen some time soon. I haven't read a single one of her books, though I have Sense and Sensibility and Emma.

I would recommend anything by Mark Twain or Agatha Christie. I'd also recommend His Dark Materials - a wonderfully written fantasy trilogy, that's definitely near the top of the list of my favorite books.

Sounds really cool. I love anything fantasy. I just got a new book from Book-A-Million a couple of days ago called The Shapeshifters by Amelia Atwaters-Rhodes. It looks good, but I haven't started reading it yet.

North of Beautiful [image error] was one of the best books of 2009 I read. Gives you a true sense of what true beauty is.

That sounds like a very good book. One question: What's north of being beautiful? *Don't answer that if it's a spoiler!*

Hmmm... I'm not sure how to explain it. It has to do with a collage she does and geocahching. But that won't make much sense until you read the book!
