Stunt Road, by Gregory MosePete McFadden has stumbled into success, and he's not going to question it. He's making a fortune as a trendy self-help guru, selling concocted visions of the future and dubious insights into his customer's souls. But when his dodgy business becomes a weapon in the hands of a manipulative cult leader and a ruthless multinational corporation, Pete learns the hard way that when everything is for sale, wishful thinking has the highest price tag of all.

not being picky but FYI Chicago has recently standardized the spelling as eBook. thought y'all would be interested.j
Thanks j, not picky at all, just helpful. Now if only someone would standardize the eBook format....
I was just telling my partner, Brian Knight, at Premium Promotional Services that we should incorporate a new service having to deal with formats for eBooks. I've been trying to upload mine into Smashwords and having a heck of a time. Brian is so so good with stuff like that. I told him that I'd pay someone $20 to format my book so I can load it properly. Geesh...all this formating stuff is like a whole other language.
I'm surprised you're having trouble, Jo-Anne. You're pretty computer savvy, or at least, that's the impression I have of you.I am NOT computer savvy. I can barely get Word to italicize something. But I found the Smashwords conversion really easy -- by using their tutorial. It was super clear and user-friendly.
Hi all, I saw your comment Jo-anne...and you know what...I did pay someone...lol...I think it would be a great service...she did a great job. You may have something there.
Dianne
I thought so, Dianne....lol. I am computer savvy, but there's just so much to know. At times I get overwhelmed. I can work with user-friendly, but converting an entire book into Word.doc is just crazy when it is in another form. My editor/publisher, bless her heart (Nancy Williams from Laurus Books), converted one of my entire books into Word.doc. Would have taken her hours! Now, she gives it to me and I still have to go through the entire manuscript and italisize what needs to be done (and trust me...I have a lot of italisization) UGH!
I've used Zamzar to do much of my conversion for fReader (BookBuzzr widget) and it uploaded fine there. (Oh, and it's FREE...great site to convert files from one to the other). Yet, some conversions can lose proper formating. And I find Smashwords request to enter Word.doc the worst. Okay, maybe it's just me having problems...dunno?
lol....like I said, my friend, I just paid someone. I think it is available now...I am looking and we are trying to upload it to Kindle. Mental note...next book I need to make sure that the guy puts it in the right format...I am bummed though because mine had an awesome format and none of that converted to e-books :(Dianne
Kissing Frogs in Cyberspace
I'm surprised you don't write in Word, Jo-Anne. I've always understood that Word is the industry standard.
Okay all... My books is available on smashwords...I think ;)...No kidding...it is ...Take a peek all! =)http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...
Also, please add me to your friends list.. I like having friends! =)
Mine, too. I love Smashwords.http://www.smashwords.com/profile/vie...
Year 1 is also available in the Kindle store. I'm trying to earn out my royalties so I can close it and funnel my Kindle sales through the Smashwords partnership; it's a higher royalty rate (and one less person to keep track of sales/payments).
Okay, all I am a smashword/kindle rookie...How do I let people know on amazon and barnes and noble it is available on kindle and smashwords? Thanks for the help.
How do you let people know? I think talk it up in the forums, on Facebook/Twitter... all that fun stuff. How to enable sales via these outlets? Go to your Dashboard, then Distribution Channel Management (on the left-hand menu). You can adjust who sells your books that way.
Oh, lol, thanks Susan... Okay, I didn't ask the question properly.. How do I add links on to the Barnes and Noble and Amazon site to let people know it is on kindle and sony reader and e-reader. I love your other suggestions, too ;)
Oh! Go look yourself up over at the individual sites, get the links to your books, and post those. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_...
That's my search page at Amazon. It shows the print versions, the Kindle edition (I don't know why it's not showing Year 2) and that you can subscribe to the Meet and Greet.
To get the individual links for your website and stuff, click on each title separately.
See? Here's Year 1 on kindle:

Make sense?
I hear that...My friend told me that the Library of Congress had 6,000 books registered in the last two days...just plain crazy.
My book is on the iPhone/iPod touch, and now I'm "tagging" it for the Kindle. I had a professional group do the coding for the iPhone - Xerces Technologies. They were GREAT! Cost was very reasonable. And Xerxes Mullen (the president of the company) is a GoodReads member, so if you want to convert your book to the iPhone, I highly recommend his company. (not just because he is a GoodReads-ite - although that is definitely a plus). As for the Kindle formatting, I am doing my own because I have graphics, lists, and other things that make the process very customized. It is definitely not rocket science, but BORING beyond belief. I keep snoozing off. Think I've had more naps in one week than I had the whole time I was a toddler. In spite of the tedium, if you want to put your book on the Kindle I would recommend doing it yourself and saving on the conversion cost. And I definitely recommend Kindle Formatting The Complete Guide, by Joshua Tallent. Scan through the whole thing first, then use it as a Step 1, Step 2, Step 3...guide. If anyone tries this route and wants some meager advice, I'll be happy to help where I can.
It cost me nothing to set up The Demo Tapes: Year 1 on Kindle. We did it ourselves. To get the books (Year 1 and Year 2) into .epub format, we went via Smashwords. Even easier, and it converted my books into nine formats (I think that's what they're currently up to) and I have only one person handling my sales -- via Amazon, B&N, Sony, and other storefronts. Just an option, and one that makes life easier and frees up some time for actually writing.
My book - "The Legend of the Seahawk" is available in Kindle format from Amazon.com and other e-book format from Smashwords.comhttp://www.amazon.com/Legend-Seahawk-...

Can you believe it: we are still holding #1 Bestseller spot in Children's ebooks poetry category on Barnes and Noble website, but today we also made it into top 100 bestsellers in Children's ebooks section on Barnes and Noble. The Fairy Book
We are #67:http://books.barnesandnoble.com/searc...
You know, normally if someone throws something of yours into the meatgrinder, you expect to never see it again. Thanks to Smashwords.com and their automated "Meatgrinder" word processor/converter, you get it back...maybe in spades, maybe in reviews or maybe in dollars. Who knows? But, it might be a great way to make your work available as an ebook for such things as Kindle. I've done it already for three of my works:
"Dark Tidings (Vol. I) www.smashwords.com/books/view/8945
"Dark Tidings (Vol. II) www.smashwords.com/books/view/8948

Jo-Anne wrote: "I was just telling my partner, Brian Knight, at Premium Promotional Services that we should incorporate a new service having to deal with formats for eBooks. Smashwords recommends making a copy of your work and then saving it as a plain text document. Then either set the indent with the rule bar or double space after each paragraph if you don't want to indent.
Pick a good font, like Times New Roman, at 12 point (ideal) for the entire document. Fix anything that was centered in the original version and save the whole thing as a Word document.
I hope his helps. If it does, maybe I'll try it.
