Just 5, hmmm. I made a list on my blog of my favorite reads of 2009, and there were 22 of them. But if I had to pick just 5, I would say (in no particular order):

Jennifer, to share links, just click "add book/author" above the comment box where you type and then plug in the name of a book and click "add". :)

As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of YA books. I highly recommend these 5, though it was a bit difficult to choose from the many great books I read last year.
That was kind of tough to choose except for my top pick which is Afraid. If you like horror, I so recommend that book.
I so love that you asked this!!![image error]
1. Lament by Maggie Stiefvater
2. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
3. Dead And Gone (Sookie Stackhouse #9) by Charlaine Harris
[image error]
4. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
5. City Of Glass by Glass by (Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare
For me it was a year of Maggie Stiefvater! I've read all 3 of her books. If the list would have been my top 10 of the year, Ballad would have been #6! Love, love, love her writing!
I found 2 great new authors last year, J.A. Jance and Jennifer Chiaverini. The Ali Reynolds series, books 2, 3 & 4, by Jance, and The Cross-Country Quilters.I read Lovely Bones several years ago, the year it was published. Yes, it has stayed with me a long time. I've seen the trailers for the movie. Film is a totally different medium than the written word & I wonder how they can do justice to the book.
Oh Margie, I'm so glad to see The Girl Next Door included in your Top 5!!! It's one of my all-time faves.
Kelly R wrote: "Oh Margie, I'm so glad to see The Girl Next Door included in your Top 5!!! It's one of my all-time faves."Thanks! That was my first Jack Ketchum book thanks to recommendations from the Horror Aficionados group on GR. I also read The Lost last year and have several Ketchum books on my TBR shelves for this year.

Ohh, I own The Lost but haven't read it yet. Is it good?? I've read Stranglehold, Hide and Seek, and Off Season. The Girl Next Door is in a class by itself, though... what an amazing job he did with that story, wow. (You know it's based on a true story right?)
The Lost was good, but you are right The Girl Next Door is in a class by itself. It just sticks with you. Yes, I heard it is based on a true story. It was also made into a film, but it was not nearly as good as the book. I have Off Season on my TBR shelf so I will probably read it soon.

I saw the movie American Crime based on the real Sylvia Likens case (with Ellen Page as Sylvia), but I haven't seen The Girl Next Door based on the book. I do want to see it though.
Wow! There are some REALLY GREAT books here! I know where I will be heading when my TBR list looks Blah!
I even padded my TBR with some of these...
Hehehe!

I also really loved "The Second Virgin Birth" Tommy is working on the sequel. He was sweet enough to let me read the first chapter. It promises to be as good as the first book. I'm really looking forward to reading it as well.
Journeywoman wrote: I LOVED Soulless! Her second book pubs in April 2010 and I can't wait to read it. I am really looking forward to the second one too. I hear there is going to be less Lord Maccon, though. I think more Lord Maccon is always better. :D
Shutter Island by Dennis LeHane
Vision in White by Nora Roberts

I'm not sure how to do the links thing but my top 5 of last year were definitely;
These were all amazing books!
Yas, adding the links is easy... just click "add book/author" right above the comment box and you can figure it out from there. :)

Kelly R wrote: "Yas, adding the links is easy... just click "add book/author" right above the comment box and you can figure it out from there. :)"Yay!! :D Thanks lol
Lol - it took me quite some time to figure it out as well, Yas, and only after someone told me how to do it :P
Yas wrote: "Lol bloody hell..I must seem really stupid LOL! Ive only just got to grips with crossing books out as well...thanks to libby!"Yas, you think you are bad. I still don't get what would be the point of crossing them out. Is like a I've already read this one, the non-crossed out ones are ones I still have to read? LOL! And I have been using this site for almost a year! :D
I love this thread because it's more books to add to my TBR list. Thanks guys!
Yas wrote: "Lol bloody hell..I must seem really stupid LOL! Ive only just got to grips with crossing books out as well...thanks to libby!"I feel your pain! I got the linking thing down, but would you mind explaining to me how you cross books out?
My top books would the the first 4 Charlaine Harrisbooks of Sookie Stackhouse, Afraidby: Jack KilbornDark PossessionDark Challengeall by Christine Feehanthose are my guilty pleasures. I have a lot of good books, but I think that Christine Feehan is my favorite books to read.
Susan - Have you read the other Sookie books? I love that you love them. And are you Team Eric or Bill :D.I haven't read Feehan but I see her books all the time and have almost bought them like 4 or 5 times and then have put them back. I may just need to bite the bullet and by one. What would you say would be a good one to start with of hers?

Yeah..at the beginning of the title/author or whatever put (it wont let me do it here..keeps crossing stuff out and not putting the commands down so it'll be a bit harder to explain. Okay so at the start of your sentence put sideway Left triangle point thing.(at bottom of keyboard usually with quotations etc)..an s and then the right triangle. Then do the same for the end of the sentence...left sideways triangle thing but then a left slash then the s and then the right sideways triangle thing! Sorry- dead confusing but it wont show commands on here.

So, my question is, what were your top five books for 2009? What were your "Guilty Pleasures" or "the best quick reads" or whatever you want to call them; share them (with links) so that others could have a look and either pad their TBR's or race out to the bookstore or library for a copy 'cause that sounds a LOT better than what I have!
