I am sure there will be moments, when our TBR will just not look all that interesting, and we might get too lost looking through other peoples TBR's and Reveiws.

So, my question is, what were your top five books for 2009? What were your "Guilty Pleasures" or "the best quick reads" or whatever you want to call them; share them (with links) so that others could have a look and either pad their TBR's or race out to the bookstore or library for a copy 'cause that sounds a LOT better than what I have!

Jennifer, to share links, just click "add book/author" above the comment box where you type and then plug in the name of a book and click "add". :)

message 15: by Jamie (last edited Jan 05, 2010 07:54PM) (new)

Jamie A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale [image error] Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery Revenge of the Spellmans (Spellman Series, Book 3) by Lisa Lutz

As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of YA books. I highly recommend these 5, though it was a bit difficult to choose from the many great books I read last year.

message 16: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C ohhhh cool thanks for letting me know how to do that. :)

Margie (Bookzombie) (bookzombie08) Afraid by Jack Kilborn The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum Princess Bride by William Goldman Cell by Stephen King It by Stephen King

That was kind of tough to choose except for my top pick which is Afraid. If you like horror, I so recommend that book.

For me it was a year of Maggie Stiefvater! I've read all 3 of her books. If the list would have been my top 10 of the year, Ballad would have been #6! Love, love, love her writing!

message 19: by Rayni (last edited Jan 05, 2010 07:26PM) (new)

Rayni | 135 comments I found 2 great new authors last year, J.A. Jance and Jennifer Chiaverini. The Ali Reynolds series, books 2, 3 & 4, by Jance, and The Cross-Country Quilters.

I read Lovely Bones several years ago, the year it was published. Yes, it has stayed with me a long time. I've seen the trailers for the movie. Film is a totally different medium than the written word & I wonder how they can do justice to the book.

Kelly Oh Margie, I'm so glad to see The Girl Next Door included in your Top 5!!! It's one of my all-time faves.

Thanks! That was my first Jack Ketchum book thanks to recommendations from the Horror Aficionados group on GR. I also read The Lost last year and have several Ketchum books on my TBR shelves for this year.

Ohh, I own The Lost but haven't read it yet. Is it good?? I've read Stranglehold, Hide and Seek, and Off Season. The Girl Next Door is in a class by itself, though... what an amazing job he did with that story, wow. (You know it's based on a true story right?)

Margie (Bookzombie) (bookzombie08) The Lost was good, but you are right The Girl Next Door is in a class by itself. It just sticks with you. Yes, I heard it is based on a true story. It was also made into a film, but it was not nearly as good as the book. I have Off Season on my TBR shelf so I will probably read it soon.

Off Season is majorly gory! If it hadn't been for so much gore, I'd have enjoyed it more. I saw the movie American Crime based on the real Sylvia Likens case (with Ellen Page as Sylvia), but I haven't seen The Girl Next Door based on the book. I do want to see it though.

message 25: by Kami (new)

P.S. ...I think I will be looking around for "The Second Virgin Birth" very soon!

I also really loved "The Second Virgin Birth" Tommy is working on the sequel. He was sweet enough to let me read the first chapter. It promises to be as good as the first book. I'm really looking forward to reading it as well.

I am really looking forward to the second one too. I hear there is going to be less Lord Maccon, though. I think more Lord Maccon is always better. :D

I love this thread because it's more books to add to my TBR list. Thanks guys!

Yeah..at the beginning of the title/author or whatever put (it wont let me do it here..keeps crossing stuff out and not putting the commands down so it'll be a bit harder to explain. Okay so at the start of your sentence put sideway Left triangle point thing.(at bottom of keyboard usually with quotations etc)..an s and then the right triangle. Then do the same for the end of the sentence...left sideways triangle thing but then a left slash then the s and then the right sideways triangle thing! Sorry- dead confusing but it wont show commands on here.
