This is my absolute favorite book of all time, what does everyone else think?

I loved the first, didn't like Catching Fire as much, but still, I can't wait to read the third. The publication date seems so far away!

I just finished Catching Fire and I'm so stunned! I liked The Hunger Games but it didn't have me on the edge of my seat like CF had, now I REALLY can't wait til book 3. No news on the cover or title yet, are there?

I read The Hunger Games last year and I loved it. I just picked up Catching Fire from the library a few minutes ago and I can't wait to read it!

I am another who am addicted to the hunger games... they are such amazing reads and get you soo drawn into the world of Gale, Catniss and Peeta

I struggled with Hunger games, I read it to the end but found it slighty hard to read. Moral values seem to be taking place of the storyline. She is a good writer, it was just a shock to read this after reading many other young adult books. I think its more like adult or advanced young adult, then again, I am not the brightest in class with English so it could be me, lol.
I will try it again in a few years.

Hey Colin, I don't really get why this book made you struggle. Are you talking about the language? Or the violence? I'd really like to know :)

Great books...can't wait for the third in the trilogy. I thought the premise was fascinating. And, the author made me fall in love with Katniss.

For about what ages is this book?!?!

My fifth grader read this. She's pretty mature and a reader. My seventh grader also enjoyed it. I did too and I'm really old! ;). I would generally think 7th grade and up unless you know the reader is mature. If they read Twilight, I think they could read this.

I think the Hunger Games is the best book I've read last year, I couldn't put it down and I had to force myself to go to bed at like 2 a.m. and even then I couldn't get to sleep because I kept on thinking about it and about what would happen next. It was amazing and I can't wait for the last book in the series!

I absolutely loved Hunger Games. I cannot wait for the 3rd book. This book got me under its spell and didn't let me go until I read it all. The only time I was forced to stop reading was when my eyelids were giving up on me. I even made out loud comments while reading it! This series must be my all time favourite.

The third one is supposed to be called Mockingjay. I'm guessing you've probably already figured this out, but if not, you can search 'Mockingjay" in the Goodreads search engine, and it will show you the cover, too. But I'm not sure if it's the official cover.

The Hunger Games was a really good book and so was Catching Fire. I can't wait until Mockingjay comes out in August!

I absolutely love the hunger games!

It is DEFINITELY my favorite YA novel! I haven't felt that way about a book in a long time. I was really apprehensive at first because I'm usually not into Sci-fi/post-apocalyptic settings, but I'm so glad I read it! Even the violence is written so brilliantly, it's actually beautiful. And Katniss is such a strong, yet completely vulnerable character. LOVED it. Masterpiece.

The Hunger Games actually read like a movie I saw years ago. I think it was called Running Man.

I also loved the way this book explored the idea of right vs. wrong. As I read, I continually wondered what I would do if I were put in the Katniss's situation.

my first reaction (and each time i've read it since) was that the Giver was a knockoff of so many stories i'd read before. i don't understand the fan base.
Hunger Games may be the same for you. my only comparison was television's Survivor but w/guns, kids and politics. the combination of kids and politics make the story for me.

I read this book a 1 ago (and several times after that)I usually dont buy random books, but after i read an interview with Stephenie Meyer saying that this was a great book i decided to give it a shot. My surprise was that OMG this was an nerve warcking, heart breaking, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. So far I´ve read this book 3 times and I will read it again today...

The second one is EVEN BETTER, i cried, laugh and scream while i was reading......

This has been my favorite book of all times! It was sooo hard for me to put it down! I loved the first two and now I'm counting down the days until the next one comes out! Nothing matches the awesomeness of the hunger games :D

I like it when authors re-energize or reinvent old themes and premises; it makes literature more organic and connected. I though Hunger Games was a good example of the gladiator trope which is especially nice because usually this premise crops up in really terrible things like Running Man. But good doesn't make it revolutionary and personally the ending just torpedoed the whole thing for me.

i dunno, i have heart disease and survived Hunger Games okay. hearth disease sounds like c.o.p.d. and that IS a real b*tch.

Ok is there anyone else in the world who does not understand the hype over these books? I mean, I like them but I don't see what makes them so obsession-worthy.

I love the premise, but the plot seems repetitive in parts and I dislike the writing style and the characters. I've only found like one other person who agreed with me about this. O_o haha

Brigid, I have one friend who started The Hunger Games and couldn't get into it, but she also just recently couldn't get into When You Reach Me, and I, and many, love both these books.

I can't wait for Mockingjay!!! Buying it (a big deal for me to purchase books) on 8/24 and I'll start reading that day. I loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire.

I'm sure you and my friend aren't the only ones who don't like these books, but they are very popular with those who've been interested enough to want to read them.

I didn't like the writing style at first either, but as I got into them and the plot developed I really didn't mind it. :D

And I was hooked from the very first sentence of the first book.

It doesn't surprise me that different readers will like/dislike different books/parts of books.

I know what you mean! I love them, but they frustrate me too! (Maybe for different reasons...) I hate how she can't decide if she loves Peeta or Gale. Personally, I love Peeta and I hate how he loves her so much but she can't decide. And I didn't really like Gale in the first book but I'm starting to like him now (I'm in the middle of Catching Fire.) Another thing that frustrates me is the Quarter Quell and how Katniss has to go back into the arena. That made me so angry. But the books are so good!

ooooooooo it is very frustrating but I think that is what gives into its pull and makes you determind to read more. Its enough but not too much you dont want to read it anymore!!!!

Well, I never particularly like love triangles and that isn't a part of the book I'm wild about, but I LOVE these books anyway.

I like love triangles, as a concept, BUT certain ones make me want to scream. Especially if I kind of like both guys or if the girl kind of likes both guys and there's one I really like. Which, I understand, makes for a great story. BUT it makes for an unhappy/frustrated/screaming me :)

This is one of the best Young Adult books that I've read in a really long time. It took me a little bit to get into the writing style because it was written in present tense, first person. But the conflict of the story was so intriguing and fantastic. I fell in love with all of the characters and am anticipating the third book with batted breath!

It's not so much the first person/present tense that bothers me; I mean, I write like that all the time. I think it's the choppiness, all the fragments and whatnot. And I don't think Katniss has much of a strong or unique voice. It feels like a book that should be written in third person to me, and then the writing style bothers me. I agree that the love triangle is frustrating, particularly because I don't really see what the point is. Peeta and Gale are both nice, but … that's just it. They're both nice, and there's not much else to their characters in my opinion. It's one of those books where I kind of want to strangle them all. But, I'm interested to see how it all turns out.
