I read Benighted a few years ago, and the details are not fresh in my mind. I remember liking the way it explored the effects of prejudice on both the oppressed and the oppressor and liked how it had much more substance than other "werewolf" novels. The writing style seemed a little awkward at times, but overall quite a good book. I really wish American publishers wouldn't change original titles.
Dave, I loved Something Rich and Strange! It's been a number of years since I read it, but I still remember the power it had over me. It was a Saturday afternoon, drizzly and cool, and I was sitting in my favorite chair reading. After I was done, I had such an overwhelming urge to drive to the beach. So I did. It was pouring, and the beach was soggy and desolate. I loved the smell of the turbulent ocean and couldn't stop thinking about the story...for days.
Wow, i feel behind the times or something cause i've never heard of Kit Whitfield. Is she fairly new, or have i just somehow missed her for awhile?- i'll have to check her work out

You've mentioned Ian McDonald before. I have two of his books Terminal Cafe and King of Morning, Queen of Day still sitting unread on my shelf.
I've read one of Terri Windling's Year of the Best Fantasy and Horror anthologies and enjoyed it quite well.
