Koontzland - Dean Koontz discussion
Welcome to Koontzland!
>
The Other Dean Koontz Group
I'm here. Two groups would be duplicitous at best; would more likely be counterproductive and become argumentative. Case in point are Deanna's trite comments after she realized you started Koontzland.
Dustin, I am with you my friend. I left the old group when joining here as I knew this group would be more organized and it would be a nice fresh start (plus, no missing moderators). Koontzland has launched very well and we are a great group of people creating a really cool community. I agree with Tom, two groups would just be counterproductive. Plus, I think if Dean Koontz joined Goodreads he would choose Koontzland over the old group ;)
Well, why should I help with two different Dean Koontz groups? I thought, well maybe we could find a way to use both groups together but I don't see how and it didn't seem like Deanna really wanted to work with me but she wanted remain as the main moderator. I still don't think she's going to be all that active, but maybe she'll appoint someone else a moderator who wants to build that group. If I stayed as moderator there, I decided it wouldn't be fair to myself, Deanna or the Dean Koontz fans.
When I started Koontzland the membership of the old Dean Koontz group was 145 when I left yesterday it was still 145 :-) most people are keeping dual membership and people are still joining based on the group size rather than activity.
I'd like to invite Tom and anyone else, to leave the old Dean Koontz group, but it's up to you. Also I did delete some of my comments from the old Dean Koontz group this morning. As a member, I added over 400 comments to the discussions - I have left most of them :-) but if you'd like to delete some of your comments - that would help show a decrease in activity also. You can delete comments after leaving a group - you just can't add comments. Anyway, now it sounds like I'm really trying to ruin the other group. I'm just telling you what I've done. Again, it's your decision.
I'm going to try to be nice now :-) I'm very happy with the Koontzland - Dean Koontz group. We have a great group of people, just over 50 members is a great size and everyone is participating in different ways and sharing their opinions. Thank you everyone for helping us get off to a great start!

Thanks Rachel :-) I am addicted to this goodreads site. I've got to turn off the computer now before I become part of the machine. Maybe I'll be able to log back on tonight while I'm watching American Idol! :-) See you all later & enjoy the rest of your day :-)
OK Dustin I expunged myself from the other group. Now everytime I read or think about the other group,I think The Other. Like it's a bad thing that needs to be destroyed. I deleted the only topic I started, but not my comments. And really one DK group is all anyone needs.

I believe Jason is once again referring to The Borg - he's really into The Borg who "assimilate" - in the old group we went through this. Jason even has created a goodreads group for the author who created Borg. Okay maybe I'm mixing two different interests up. Anyway, Jason will be happy to explain for everyone who is even more clueless about Borg than I. See his profile picture - it's green Borg :-) and even his name has "borg" incorporated into it. I mean he's really into this thing.

Dustin: Arthur C. Clarke didn't create the Borg, unfortunately, though he has described something similar in his writing. I also love Lawnmower Man, Tom! I can see Rachel has already been assimilated, such that her biological and technological distinctiveness has been added to our own. ;-)
Rachel wrote: "You can call me 2 of 5 now. That is my number from my original collective (i.e. my siblings). lol"Then you can call me 1 of 1, Rachel. :-D

Does anyone want to volunteer to be a Koontzland - Dean Koontz delegate? By this, I mean, write to Dean and invite him to visit our group? Dean, Gerda, Anna, The Enduring Spirit of Trixie, whoever Dean's current secretary is or even whoever's in charge of Dean's websites & social networking etc - anyone Dean will send our way :-) We'd love to have an insider on Dean's team join us and give us inside info, answer our big questions, etc.

Matt R. wrote: "Conspiracy theory: Dean or one of his associates may be already among us ;)"It's Anna, who will be reporting directly to Trixie, hence indirectly to Dean.
Rachel wrote: "I think it's Maciek..."sssshhhh !
I think that Dean is far too busy to visit and participate in forums such as this one. Besides, knowing his writing shedule, when we talk here he writes another book :)
True, he revises each page as he writes like 30 times??? I wonder how many hours of writing time it takes him for each book!
I didn't know there was another group of Dean Koontz fans as I just joined this one about a month or so ago? I have to say, I like the name you gave this group - 'KOONTZLAND' - better than the one of the previous group. It has a certain panache. Anybody else about the name?

I needed a name that was unique, yet still had Dean Koontz in the name so it will come up in a group search :-) If you go to the Dean Koontz website www.deankoontz.com ,it says "Welcome to Koontzland" - that's how I came up with it, so it's not really an original idea :-) just a clever one, I hope.

I doubt I'm gonna try to get into Star Trek and The Borg :-) It's just never appealed to me.

All you Star Trek fans are welcome to start a new discussion under the folder Off Topic/Misc - you can put it right next to my X-Files and Fringe topic :-) It's up to you, but you're welcome to create a new discussion if you want.

Where are Jinnifer and Blake from the other DK group? They were very active here, but I have seen no sign of them here. I miss them. :'-(
I just put a 'short-cut' to Dean's website (thanks for the link) on my desktop so I can call it up in a hurry when I have 5 minutes here and there to check it out.

Should she be willing to accept this mission of the utmost importance, it would be greatly appreciated by us all. :-)
Lori wrote: " Jason, I was assimilated years ago. But they cut me loose when they found my head empty!"But the Borg are incapable of making a mistake. They are perfection, remember? :-)
Lori wrote: " Told you my head was empty! Nothing usefull to them.LOL :)"But my point was that, due to their perfection, they would not have made the mistake of assimilating you in the first place if that were true, so it must be false. Get it? :-)
Hey maybe that's why my head is empty? I'm a little slow, but I do indeed get it.;o)
I stopped watching after The Next Generation went off air. Hey Jonathan Frakes was on Criminal Minds last week. Did you see it/do you watch CM's? Very good episode.
Lori wrote: "...I stopped watching after The Next Generation went off air. Hey Jonathan Frakes was on Criminal Minds last week. Did you see it/do you watch CM's? Very good episode."That's too bad, as Voyager is not only my favorite ST series, but is my favorite show of all time, and it is the series in which the Borg come to their full glory. No, I do not watch CM.
The Borg bad?!?! Blasphemy!!! (Yes, most people would probably say so, though they were not actually good or bad per se`, but I greatly admire them in many ways).
I think their only objective was to assimilate everyone they came across right? Good bad it's all relative right? :)
Lori wrote: " I think their only objective was to assimilate everyone they came across right? Good bad it's all relative right? :)"Well, they only assimilated those they deemed worthy of assimilation at that time, thereby adding not only to the perfection of the Borg themselves, but to those they had just assimilated. Thus, their mission was to spread order and perfection throughout the universe. How can you get more good than that? :-)
Jason "plasborgma" wrote: "Lori wrote: " I think their only objective was to assimilate everyone they came across right? Good bad it's all relative right? :)"Well, they only assimilated those they deemed worthy of assimi..." The Catholic church?

I've actually contacted both of them :-) I don't think Blake has really been online - haven't heard back from him. Jinnifer, however has joined Koontzland but right now she is busy selling her house/moving, so I'm happy to report she'll be joining us again when things settle down :-)

Lori wrote: "Is the Catholic church like the Borg? They only assimilate those they deem worthy?"That one kind of went over my head. :-/
"Thus, their mission was to spread order and perfection throughout the universe. How can you get more good than that?" :-) This is the quote I was referring to...No offense intended, I left off the LOL.
Carol wrote: ""Thus, their mission was to spread order and perfection throughout the universe. Jason "plasborgma" wrote: "Lori wrote: " So is that a no? LOL ;)"I would say so. :-P" I didn't say that the CC succeeded in 'spreading order and perfection', only that their mission was...as a non-Catholic, I love that I could have someone tell me what to do and when to do it (stand up, sit down, sing now, pray now) but that would mean I'd have to listen to them tell me what to do in my personal spiritual life...what to believe, what not to believe, and above all...what is a sin. That's the perfection I was referring to...and the reason for the added LOL, because I don't take 'perfection' seriously (being a flawed human).
I have to say that the Borg have a lot going for them, except fashion-wise...but then Seven looks good in anything!

I'm not sure what Deanna has planned for the group but I'm sticking with Koontzland - Dean Koontz and hope everyone already here will too. I deleted the polls I created before I left, but I left all my comments. I know Matt left the old Dean Koontz group immediately after joining Koontzland. I hung around just to monitor activity. It's of course up to everyone whether they leave the other group, but whatever you decide please stay with us in Koontzland. You are all needed!
