Lynn | 10 comments I just got my Kindle in on Friday and played with it some this weekend, since I went on a trip for the weekend. It was great being able to switch between books (I change reading moods frequently and can read 5-6 books at a time if they are different). I have real books at home I still need to read, so my Kindle may not get as much use at home, but at work, on the road, etc. I think I will use it a lot!

Lynn | 10 comments There are a ton of great sites to download free e-books. Check out the kindle forums on Amazon's site and you can find a good list...if you can't find that let me know and I'll get you a list of ones I use. I downloaded mobipocket and it converts these to a format that works on the kindle. Sometimes the formatting is a little off, but most have been okay.

Cillasi | 3 comments Feedbooks is a good source for public domain books already in kindle format. You can download them directly to the kindle too!

Here is a link to a good reference for free kindle books

Angelica (angelica221) Another good place for free ebooks is www.manybooks.net you can just download in Kindle format! I love that site!!

K.S.R. (kareyshane) So Heather, I'm new here and don't have a Kindle--yet--but how do you convert your scripts to Kindle format. Can you do that just for your own personal use?

Petunia Are you saying you don't have to pay the $9.99 fee through Amazon to download the books from manybooks.com? I can't wait to learn more.

Cillasi Same question about thekindle.wordpress.com...is there a $9.99 fee for that?

Cheri (booklady111) | 2 comments There is no fee to download out-of-copyright books from manybooks.net - I've been reading Mark Twain's Prince and the Pauper and will soon get to Edgar Allen Poe's works. I just grabbed four free books from the Amazon site itself - the most I've ever seen at once - from authors like Julie Garwood. Definitely glad I bought a Kindle!

Elizabeth | 2 comments Has anyone tried the audiobook feature yet?

message 14: by Angelica (new)

Angelica (angelica221) Yes, Karey Shane, you can actually get books from manybooks.net for free. You have to hook your kindle up to your computer and transfer files. But it's neat the selection they have.

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather (smileyhair) Karey- You can send your Kindle almost any document and they will convert it for you for $.10. Or, you can e-mail "yourname"@free.kindle.com and they will e-mail back the file to the account associated with your kindle and then you can use the USB cable to download it. I always opt to just e-mail my Kindle for 10 cents, because its easy. If you go to "manage your kindle" in your account home page, you will see your kindle "e-mail address". Its usually "yourname"@Kindle.com.

Its aweseome!
