I loved this book as a kid. It was a library book with the clear crackly cover and I wish wish wish I could find one for my adult library. Unfortunately it is out of print and pretty rare and most places want (including Amazon)$280 or more for a copy. Anyone out there have any clues where one exisits for a more reasonable cost???

I was looking for this book myself and found your comment. I checked this book out about 10 times in elementary school and am not having any more luck finding a copy.
We had this book when I was little and my mother would read a chapter to us per night. Several years ago I searched for it online and couldnt find a single mention of it, which baffled me because I remembered the title and author of the book. Today I decided to search again only to find that it goes for the hundreds!!! I can't believe it. First of all, because had we kept the book (must've have sold it or given it away during one of our many moves)we would have a valuable literary work, and I'd have one of my favorite nighttime story books to read to my son (who is due to be born in about a week). I just hope I can find someone who doesnt know its worth selling it at a garage sale. That would be great.

Dont know where you're located, but Florida State University and Florida International University both carry a copy
The most I can offer you is a half-hearted "good luck," due to the fact that I'd ideally reserve most of the luck for myself in this endeavor! One thing I do know is that it would take a LOT of luck to happen upon a copy at a garage sale. I've been actively keeping an eye out for it, as have my parents, at every place we encounter that sells used books for 12 years already. I think it would take longer than my lifetime for that kind of luck to find me, so someday I'll probably break down and spend the several hundred dollars. I need to own this book!
A tiny publisher, Two Lakes Press (http://twolakespress.com/default.aspx), plans to re-publish this delightful book, eventually. I'd recommend getting your name on the list and exhibit the patience that Opalina displayed during Benjamin Paisley's days in the house. :)
HI. If you are still interested in a copy of The Ghost of Opalina I have decided to sell mine. I have it listed on my Amazon account for $195. It's a 1967 1st edition and is in great condition. I am not sure it's a good idea to post a link here, but a simple search on google or Amazon should lead u to it if u are still looking. Happy holidays :-)
