Vulgarities
I use some 'bad' words, when I'm angry or frustrated. Like you said, sometimes you have to to get out your feeling, like you said. I don't think people should use them carelessly, as people seem to do these days, like every other word, and I don't think that you should use them a lot, but I do think that it's ok if you have to say them once in a while.
I try not to use them at all. You still get the feelings. Just use a substitute like ticked, heck, snap, darnit, dang, shoot, man, freak, crap...ect.
I don't really say really bad words... not F*** or really bad ones like that, or use them as insults. just sometimes i mutter some wut my grandpa calls 'ok bad words'.
never heard that...but i live in socal so ya. ppl here just say the real word, like as much as i say like.
My friend says Oh My Lanta all the time! And we live in Michigan! That is so weird! But then again...my friend says strange things sometimes. She even says oh my pickle! I love this about her though. If she didn't say these things she wouldn't be who she is.But anyways, I don't mind vulgarities unless they are used in just about every sentence that the person says. That only bugs me though because they are practically saying "Hey, look at me! I have a very very small vocabulary!" (I know this sounds cheesy, but hey, it's true.)
That reminds me of something else. My friend says I use big words all the time, but to me, it seems like the words I use in conversation are fairly basic. I think my definition of basic is different than hers though; I read A LOT and I read quite a variety, while she reads mostly R.L. Stein.
But maybe it is just reading a bunch of late 19th century British literature(Sherlock Holmes, Oliver Twist) makes not many words seem big.
i really don't think the so called "bad" words are all that bad. unless you are using them to insult someone. but i think fear of a word is stupid. who is to say what words are "bad" and which ones aren't? words are meant for us to express ourselves.
i don't swear that much. only when i'm really really really mad. and i try not to say any swears around my younger siblings. but some people swear so much it's pointless. seriously. i'll be walking around at school, and they'll be too guys walking in front of me having a conversation like: "Hi! How the [bleep!] are you today?"
"Pretty [bleep!]in' good."
"[BLEEP]!!!"
"[BLEEP]!!!"
i mean, if you're going to swear, it should at least make sense.
I think it's so weird how almost every single bad word has a multiple meaning for a good word. Like the S word, is poo. The B word is a female dog. Depending on how you spell the word, the D word is a beaver's house. The A word is a donkey. I could go on...
It's true. They still use the B word for dogs in England. No joke! And, in some countries, doing T in ASL means the finger.
Ughh... I really don't understand why people would continuously say bad words in every single sentence they use... or use them at all! Do you think maybe it's because they think they seem tough when they do? because if that's the reason, it makes them seem SO pathetic. LOL when I read "You're a dog and a donkey and you live in a beaver's house!" it made me laugh xP I mean, what makes those simple words so bad? Simply pathetic. o-o"
haha. i guess people start using bad words cuz they think it makes them look cooler, and then they get kind of addicted to it in a way and then they're just swearing all the time, even when it doesn't make sense. haha. it reminds me of that spongebob episode, where spongebob & patrick saw this grafitti on a dumpster and they learned a "bad word" (it was a dolphin-noise sound effect) from it, and then they started using it all the time. lol. it was hilarious... It was like, "Hi, Patrick! Today is such a (dolphin noise) lovely day!" "Yes! Today is particularly (dolphin noise)!!!"
yeah, i think that swears have the opposite effect. when i see people swearing so much like that, i'm automatically like, "that person thinks he/she is so cool just because he/she is swearing" so i think that he/she is trying too hard and is therefore uncool.
exactly. sort of like the kids who get mohawks. lots of them at my school actually just buzzed theyre head and they look like aliens!
Ew. Mohawks are HIDIOUS. I think the bad part about swear words is not the word, but the meaning that comes from it. That person who is saying it might be thinking it's no big deal and is just kidding, but it's a total different point of view to the other person. So swear words are only there to hurt, and when a person gets hurt physical or inside, the person who swears will feel large and thier ego-speading when it's just dropping.
Well, i don't think they r bad unless they are used as an insult, basically. then they r v. mean. and wut katie said, some people here like at our school say bad words all the time like f*** this and d**** you and blah blah blah, i really don't like it.
LOL if only if you can point that out to some obsessive swearers out there... that might put them out of thier misery! Just show them that conversation you just made! Haha that conversation totally points out how dumb cussing is... x]
*eyes Oakwar* Hey... not all! *cough cough* Hello? Me? *cough**blinks innocently* I said (coughed) nothing. :3
Hehe ignore last comment because that was for before you edited Oakwar! ^^Ugh. Now think of that in public in SCHOOL. I wanted to march right over and kick them so bad! Actually... those teenagers did it everyday... I wonder if the teachers noticed... SO MUCH 6TH GRADERS EVERYWHERE!
Stuff like that happens in my school. They hold each other reallllly close. It's....a little disturbing.
Ew. Too young love I say, that sickens me!Awesome! I'm 14 but then I just turned like... two months ago?!
We don't have as much of that here. But we get almost every perverted comment. If you say the word it, someone will say what and act like you said something perverted. Especially when you put did in front of it.
same for both of those things. like everyone says 'your mom goes to college' or 'thats what she said' after everything. its just...wrong
i hate it when people at our school Kt, they do it alot, go like, 'that's ____' and then the other guy is like 'your mom is _____' like u said. but with randome stuff. it's stupid!
People in my school say "your mom" after stuff and occasionally yell out body parts. Very disturbing.
People in my school use the F word a lot. Not me. I think cuss words are not cool. It makes people sound less intelligent in my opinion. We had the "your mom" problem in the sixth grade.
KT remember Mr. Pier's yo mama jokes? they were actually funny cuz they were so dumb. for those of u who don't kno: he spent basically a whole class doing yo mama jokes with kids and with ms. Riis (the teacher next door- they basically hated each other and always bugged each other.)
Same... but I think in my school the "your mom" thing is wiped out... well amongst 8th graders... some still use it... I'm not sure about the others... but it was CRAZY in 5th grade! Wow!Middle of math class? Was it all quiet in there?
queit? r u kidding? we were all telling our own jokes and laughing hysterically. imagine mr pier, a physco teacher, telling yo mama jokes to mrs riis, a polite, considerate, hyped up on coffee teacher. lol
ms. riis is not sweet and sincere. She throws pens and post-it notes at kids. But i LOVE her and mr. Pier is crazy, he cracks me up. He'd just come into our science class and stand there. when ms riis saw him he'd just leave without saying anything. or he'd say soemthng random like "pudding" or "Ms. Riis is going crazy again." and the FAN jokes.
lol. ya omg so mrs riis came into mrs brays room and shes like omg, this kid doent know what 52 oickup is! so she opened the pod had the kid go out there, she threew the cards uop in the air and then shes like pick them up. hes like r u serious, and shes like yep. lol...
I don't really like cussing, but sometimes I do it when I'm mad.
I had a couple of science teachers put stink bombs i each others rooms one time! lol!
I had a couple of science teachers put stink bombs i each others rooms one time! lol!
a lot of people cuss here. actually, there are even like 1st graders who know all of the swear words. craaazy. what are kids learning these days?!
People think the same things that I do! HALELUAH!!!!!! (About swearing and such, I mean. I hate it when people do that.)

i'm yer new member, greetings.
what set me thinking of this topic was once i read the rules part.. (which is, of course, the first thread the newest member of the group visits upon joining, hehs)
almost immediately i was struck by the concept of vulgarities. such it is that there are many who are adverse towards it; yet, even more uses it.. ray bradbury, author of several accliamed books uses it, in Fahrenheit 451.. heard of it?? and surely you guys must have read "the Godfather" by Mario puzo? vulgarities are used in abundance by these authors there.. surely vulgarities can be even seen as an expression? an expression of relieving pressure under extremities? ie, where one uses these vulgarities to give them a sense of relief, just by saying it out, under these dire circumstances? surely, we know that under pressure, people would normally tend to use these vulgarities, have u watched a programme called "boiling points"? (it is a show where people are being set up to be angry.. and once they utter any vulgarities, they are "caught-out".. it's quite a popular programme among young today, furthermore, its on mtv.) yet there are those who uses vulgarities as common as "please" and "thank you", and maybe even more so. of course, since we all perceive vulgarities as "bad", we would normally perceive them who use vulgarities as "bad" too. but really, how different are vulgarities from words like "yay" or "whoo hoo" or even expressions like *winks* *cries* *giggles*, all of which are all expressions of different emotions.. so f**k can similary be the expression of relieving stress...
i use vulgarities, at times when i'm heated, and i find that it relieves me, and if i may perversely add soothes and calms me down.. i dont know, its my personal view, how bout you guys?
well, i've said my views, BUT that does not mean i will promote the useage of vulgarities.. in some ways, i'm still conventional.
what do you guys think?
