. . . the only available dates for fort worden are july 7 and 8 (weds. thurs.) . . . i've been on a waiting list for a couple of months in case any other dates opened up, but they have not, and reservation time is nearing . . . this gets us a six bedroom house which sleeps 14 (i can sleep in the moho if necessary) . . . i don't think we have to clean the place . . . chances are, these dates aren't going to work for some people, but that's all we've got . . . i can check back with fort flaggler again, as well, if people would rather me try that . . .

thanks for looking into dates and all, je. you're a star. only problem with july 7 and 8 is the fact that my wonderful job demands my presence the first week and a half of every month, so taking hols then is not viable for me :( the last week of july and first week of august would be better. but it's just me, and you have many people to cater for, so let's see what the response is.

just for kicks, can you check back with fort flaggler and see what their availability is?

Martyn | 299 comments Dude, those dates don't work for me either. I definitely want to attend this year! Beginning of August would be best...or any time in August, really. Sorry if this is a pain in the arse!

message 4: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .so for the UK contingent, after the second week of august would be best, as both lara and mart could make it . . . i'll check back with flaggler on monday and see what availabilities, if any, look like . . . i'll wrack my brain for further options . . .we'll make it happen . . .

Lara (laramonster) | 146 comments Mod
no, beginning of august, sweetheart. it's the one month my boss is happy for me to disappear during monthend. as martyn's ok with any time in august, how about we start out looking at that first week and move on from there depending on the US contingent.

Yeah, I'm good for any time in August!

Pluto is closest to earth in august. August would be better. I'm ok with Flaggler.

message 8: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
okay, i'll look early august, but i'm still confused lara, because i thought your job required you to be ther the first week and a half of each month . . .?

message 9: by Lara (new)

Lara (laramonster) | 146 comments Mod
august is the quietest month so my boss is ok with me going then. he's happy for me to take the end of july, beginning of august off.

message 10: by Jennie (new)

Jennie Hettrick (jrhettrick) | 134 comments The beach and the woods were wonderful last year! Anywhere would be cool. How exciting!

message 11: by Martha (new)

Martha Kate | 198 comments I'll probly be taking the kid to Olympia in August (looks like he's leaning toward Evergreen), and I'll sleep on a picnic table just to be with you guys. We can be flexible about which week; I'll just leave Paul with his aunt & uncle on Vashon until school starts.

message 12: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .nothing before august 26th at flagler . . .back to the drawing board!

message 13: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .okay, just to give you an idea of the places i'm looking at, check this place out:

http://www.cyberrentals.com/rental/p1...

. . . don't even know if it's available, yet, but it looks pretty cool, right?

message 14: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . on the website, it looks as though there are availabilities . . . the nearby town, clinton, is cute and has restaurants . . .not as big as port townsend . . . here's their chamber of commerce . . .

Brian (banoo) | 346 comments Mod
nice... dry river bed and a fire pit!! calendar shows it's available throughout july and august.

message 17: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . it may be a little crowded sleeping wise--says it sleeps 12, though . . .

anything here? http://www.parks.wa.gov/vacationhouses/

Cape Disappointment is such a great name.

Brian (banoo) | 346 comments Mod
and we might need to do a roll call to see how many people are really planning on going.

message 20: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . there's a cleaning fee and a bunch of taxes, and i've got a sneaking suspicion the rate in august will be higher than 300 a night (i see that there's a charge for over 10) . . . but worse case scenario, we're probably looking at 120 bucks each total for two nights . . . or 180 for three nights . . . and if we're gonna run over the twelve, surely, there will be nearby lodging possibilities in clinton . . . the only thing that scares me, is having to pay half up front on my credit card, as i'm trying to be a responsible boy and pay my balance every month, so i can someday get a loan . . . but let's get a consensus on this place, asap . . .

message 21: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .i'm on a list for cape disappointment, bri . . . i can check back, but i'm not hopeful . . .i've stayed there before, both in the quarters and camping and it's gorgeous . . .problem is, that it's a 3+ hour drive from seattle . . .

Roll call: I'm a solid maybe.

JE both places you've chosen have worked out nicely.

Why don't we have people who are planning on going send you $ down on the deposit so you don't have to do it all alone... or even if you have to make the reservation soon, have people who commit to going plunk down their half now?

message 23: by Brian, just a child's imagination (new)

Brian (banoo) | 346 comments Mod
I'm a definite.

message 24: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . i think we should pull the trigger on this place:

http://www.cyberrentals.com/rental/p1...

. . .first 12 folks who commit sleep at the house, and if we have late deciders, or even last minute deciders, we can probably find rooms in clinton . . .

message 25: by Patty, free birdeaucrat (new)

Patty | 896 comments Mod
my mom lives a few minutes from clinton. if we don't have enough space, i can sleep at her place. clinton is comparatively easy to get to from seatac.

message 26: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .nice, patty!

Another website about the place: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rent...

And it do say this... The minimum stay is one week from June to August and two nights the rest of the year.

If they charge the max 3500.00 that would be 292/person.

I do like the way the place looks... and sounds.

i just want to sleep on that big porch. the place looks pretty.

This place has got my vote! I'm attending this year. Can't wait to see everybody and give out hugs.

. . .weekend days or week days? 2 nights or 3?

message 31: by Shel, ad astra per aspera (new)

Shel (shelbybower) | 946 comments Mod
If I can make it I'll stay 3... because it's silly to travel that far for three days.

And I'll bring... extra syrup!

Weekday/weekend doesn't matter as much to me, but weekend I bet would work better for at least some of us working stiffs.

message 32: by Brian, just a child's imagination (new)

. . .maybe times are tough in the hospitality industry-- i'll call these folks and see if there's any chance i can talk them into to renting us three days mid-week in early august . ..

i'm in. just let us know the dates as soon as you can and i'll sort out visiting my sis and Mo.

martyn, we have to fly together this time if at all possible.

je, as soon as you've booked i can paypal you some dough or something?

message 41: by Shel, ad astra per aspera (new)

I'll check with mom and see if she has any inside info about this place.

Kerry Dunn (kerryanndunn) | 887 comments Mod
That place looks amazing. I'll probably be a late addition if I make it at all and I'll bring my sleeping bag and pull up a space on the floor. Phillip and I have other travel plans for this year and to travel in the middle of the week for this would mean having to use a whole week of vacation.

But it's hard to pass up opportunity to see you all.

So yeah. Put me on the maybe list.

message 44: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .back to the drawing board . . . one week minimum, though he was trying his hardest to try to get me in september because it's cheaper and there's no minimum . . . i'll keep looking for places . . . worse case scenario, we'll have it hear at my house and i'll find sleeping accomodations for everybody on the island . . .but i'm gonna' keep looking . . .

message 45: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .oh, and he did say he'd probably be willing to wave the one week minimum in june . . .but i fear that's too early for everybody . . .

message 46: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . .here's another place--more expensive, but roomier--and bellingham is a kickass town with a used bookstore that rivals william james in PT . . .

. . .anothe good one . . .roslyn is also a great town-- the town where northern exposure was filmed . . .

message 49: by Martyn (new)

Martyn | 299 comments why don't we have it in Forks and all dress up like goths?

message 50: by Patty, free birdeaucrat (new)

Patty | 896 comments Mod
ok, i was hesistant to even suggest this, because it's a bit more travelling. but if we are considering roslyn, i may as well suggest it. friends of ours manage doe bay resort. i'm not sure what they've got open in our timeframe, and if i remember correctly it's a little pricey. http://www.doebay.com/
the retreat house accomodates 5-20 people. http://doebay.com/windows/retreathous...
