Is anyone ready to discuss Flush? I thought this was a delightful quick read! Did anything jump out at anyone while they were reading?
Our of our members, Jean, mentioned some of the political incorrectness she found while she was reading. I think this is a great topic for most of the Persephone books we read, since most are older! I must be desensitized, because I didn't notice anything politically incorrect. Anyone else?

Danielle (leaningsun) | 27 comments Hmmm I don't remember anything politically incorrect but I read it so quickly and a while ago. I'd be interested to hear what stood out to everyone. I did think Flush was the most vivid puppy dog ever, his personality was great. I re-read my blog post from last year and it seems I picked up on a lot of social commentary particularly about class and suppression of both women and animals.

Georgina | 3 comments I think that I didn't really notice the political incorrectness because I was enjoying the story and the vivid characterisation of Flush so much. However, the story did draw my attention to the role of women in society at the time and how much things have changed since. For example, the reliance on men to carry out the negotiations for Flush's return after his kidnap. I felt that the character of Flush was beautifully created and I found myself thinking about how, like Miss Barrett, I may misinterpret my pets' actions. The part of the book where Flush eats the stale cakes to show his owner how much he regrets his actions and how he will love Mr Browning was wonderfully written.
I also found the details of Miss Barrett's life really interesting and would be keen to learn more about her life also.
