Michele Lee (featheredzebra) | 14 comments KSR~ My son i autistic, which, among other things, means he doesn't always "get holidays". I'm not sure how to explain it, but he just doesn't get excited about even because he doesn't always understand what they mean. Working through school to enhance his social understanding and interaction is really helping and after a few set backs he's really starting to come out of his shell. My favorite Mother's Day "gift" so far has been the many times this week when he has, completely on his own (no prompting) seen a Mother's Day commercial on TV and rushed over to me, given me a hug and a kiss and saying "I love you mommy".

The commercials usually say something like "Tell mom you love you with..." It means worlds to me that he not only recognizes what the commercial means, but he connects it to me and can find the words to express himself.

That's wonderful and amazing, Michele. Thanks for sharing that.

I have another Mother's Day story, but it's completely different. My brother's friend used to spend his money on Tonka trucks and other toys to give to his mother for Mother's Day because he knew he'd get to play with them.

I wonder what he gives her now that he's grown up? :O)

Pam | 3 comments I'm always glad to get a card or phone call. They are all grown now. My birthday is close to Mothers Day.
The past few years I have really missed my mother and mother-in-law who both passed over in 2005. I feel them around all the time and see them in dreams and even talk to them while driving when I'm alone. I miss sending them flowers or magazine scripts or whatever I thought of that particular year. I would just love to have them here for a day and be able to treat them to something. So if your Mom is still alive, make sure she knows you love her and that she is the best gift. Pamela.
