Who Is Jacob?
I believe Jacob is the dude we saw in the preview, the one who proclaims he's been dead for 7 years. Or was it 12?
Lori, The guy in the new preview is Horace Goodspeed... He is the man who helped Bens dad when Ben was born, and also got Bens dad the job at the Dharma station. Ben killed him in the purge, I remember seeing Ben walk up to him on the bench and close his eyes.... I have no idea how this man is alive and how he hid from everyone for all those years... i cant wait to see tomorrow nites ep...
(btw, its really odd for me to address my posts to you... its like Im writing back to myself.. haa haa)
Again scratching my head in admiration for your retention abilities as I sit and wonder...who the hell is Horace Goodspeed.I'm lost.
Its ok Sherry, we will hold your hand and walk you through it :D you dont remember the weird dude who hired Bens dad? he was really hippy-ish and happy all the time? Maybe the new episode will refresh your memory when you see him....
Haa-haa.I vaguely recall hippy-ish weird dude but can't imagine how they'll tie this all together.I love this show!It always keeps you guessing.
Happy Hippy Man is coming back? Nice! I try not to watch the ads for the next episode because I want to be surprised, but I'm interested to see how he survived Ben's gas attack.
i hope that didnt spoil it for you. He was in the preview right after the show last thursday. He said "ive been dead for 12 years".... i have no clue how this is going to get pulled off!!
Namaste :D
Namaste :D
Yes, Lori it's weird addressing you too!Well, that does it. That's the guy who hired Ben's Dad? You even remember his name. And I thought he was maybe Jacob!!!! Do you haave the DVDs and have you watched them, or do you truly remember this?
I'm gobsmacked.
I had forgotten his name, but I knew who he was when i saw the preview. Someone from another thread gave me the name... my memory may be good, but it isnt THAT good.. haa haa
So I didn't see this topic until now, but I have posted my who is jacob theory in a different thread. If you go looking you'll find it. I have plenty of details, i don't want to move it all.
i think that the black smoke has something to do with jacob, or maybe jacob is the black smoke
See, I disagree, I don't think the smoke has much to do with Jacob. At the most, I think he has found a way to control it. It has been said that the island is a character all in itself, I think the smoke is just part of the island. Why would they need the great big barrier around The Others camp if Ben can just go talk to Jacob? I have no doubt that if Jacob wanted them all dead, Ben would do the dirty work, so I don't think there would be a need for the protective barrier. Just a thought. Obviously I don't really know haha...
This just in: I'm reading Michael Crichton's Travels and ran across this highly interesting paragraph:"One day I came across a book called 'Be Here Now.' It was an esoteric, quasi-religious Eastern-philosophy book of the sort I didn't usually look at, but it had a handmade quality and an odd shape that caught my eye. The author was Ram Dass, formerly Richard Alpert, an expelled professor of psychology at Harvard. I had been a reporter on the Harvard Crimson during the sixties when Alpert and his colleague Timothy Leary were thrown off the faculty for giving LSD to undergraduates. I remembered those incidents well. Now here was his book."
I think we all know that Richard Alpert is somehow connected to Jacob. But I had never realized that there was a real-life individual named Richard Alpert. Anybody else know anything about this Richard Alpert fellow?
Jeremy, I actually went to a talk many years back given by Ram Dass. Definitely a cool individual in real life, very very much there- if that makes any sense. I would really recommend Be Here Now, it's been a coffee table book in my house since before I could even walk.Interestingly enough, Ram Dass has written a lot about the dharma (not in the Lost sense but in the Buddhist sense).
okay, i'm just really confused about jacob, he really freaks me out, all i kno is he's like magical and weird and scary
Hmmm, thats a very interesting catch Jeremy.....Mr. Eyeliner seems like he plays a big part in all of this.
Richard Alpert?1. He doesn't age.
2. His appearance in season4 episode CABIN FEVER was mindblowing. Trying to approach Locke.
3. He shot Keamy.
I had heard that he had an actual name from history, but dont know what the real Richard Alpert did or who he was.... too lazy to check i guess.
I dont know why, but I dont think Jacob is anyone we have met yet. I think there will be a reveal before the end of the series that will blow us all away.
Im still also of the opinion that Jacob is just a puppet show.

Sure, havent you ever thought "What if there IS no Jacob?".... maybe he is someone Richard made up to keep Ben in line? That thought has crossed my mind. Christian would obviously be in on it too.....
I have always thought that too, like in the wizard of Oz kind of thing ... someone we know is behind "Jacob".
Are you just throwing random names out? Cause if you are, that's funny! :PAcatwood1 wrote: "Maybe Jack's ex-wife is Jacob."
This I think could be a possibility. Acatwood1 wrote: "Maybe all the main characters who have died are Jacob."
That is a super good point. It's sort of like the button pushing, or how they thought it was going. That it was just an experiment, a test of human faith. But that ended up being real so... but making up a person would be easy.Lori wrote: "Sure, havent you ever thought "What if there IS no Jacob?".... maybe he is someone Richard made up to keep Ben in line? I don't think I really have a theory. I think Jacob might be someone we haven't met. I mean, remembering that episode where we saw the glimpse of him he looked liked a ragged old man. I also wonder if it could have Biblical ties somehow; Jacob in the Bible was the father of the Israelite nation, and Jacob is the leader of The Others, we suppose. So ... well that's a little strange but not something that couldn't be. This is Lost we're talking about it! Hehe.
well jacob ISN'T non existant, because that first time in the cabin, there was someone in the chair, and jars with nobody by them, flew across the room. BUt i do think that it is a possibility that jacob is a combination of all the people who have died on the island
That is very possible.Alex wrote: "well jacob ISN'T non existant, because that first time in the cabin, there was someone in the chair, and jars with nobody by them, flew across the room. BUt i do think that it is a possibility that..."
my belief of christian as being jacob might be different, i viewed a pic of a comparison between jacob and Locke. All the evidence points to the fact that Locke is jacob.
First of all HI.Then, I am pretty sure, that Jacob is Jack's and Claire's father. He has the same face. Or have I mixed smth.?
the original "jacob" was not christian...but someone else (who i think his name must have actually been jacob) then at some point christian "took over" for him.....or something like that...we're not sure yet!
I Dont know enough of the bible or egyptain or greek history to be able to weigh in on any of that.
if you dig very deep, you can connect things that aren't connected. but it is an interesting theory. But if Jacob is Osiris, and the evil guy is Seth, then Horace can't be Horus, because Horus was Osiris' son and after his father he was the king of all gods, and every day he was fighting with Seth. We must try to find who Horus really is.because if the Jacob-osiris theory is right, then the hero who is Horus becomes very important figure. he is the only one capable to stand against Seth.
Let's get back to Jacob....
He's gone. He admitted it to Hurley, and damn, would you look at that, he had a list (his final list) for the big dogs who guard the temple. --on a sidebar, isnt it a little late in the show to be introducing a new cast??? oh my aching head.
So now that Jacob is dead, who wants to predict the future of the temple? Will Smokey/Locke "go home"? I assume that the temple is what he is referring to when he was talking to Ben.

Oh, by the way, I was watching the Lost recap before the premire and noticed how, when Jacob was off island, visiting our losties pre-plan crash... he had to PHYSICALLY TOUCH each one of them. Tapped Kate on the nose, touched Hurleys shoulder, ruffled Sawyers hair..... I don't think I made that connection before.
I know he was gathering them up, but I dont think I realised that he had actually laid a hand to each one... Interesting.
