Some Book-like suggestions!
Plus one for Dresden Files, very nice reading indeed. I also suggest Brandon Sanderson - Mistborn, beautiful book. Not like Rothfuss (development of the caracter in his book is geat), but very fluid to read.Mary, thanks for the suggestion for The War of Souls Trilogy, it's on my to read list. :)
Branka,That was me (sliefoxx), and I'd just like to say the series is absolutely brilliant! A lot of people are telling me they thought it was too slow though, but it was all fascinating, I thought ... ;)
Ups, I was too fast in reading the names :blush:Well, thank you both. New interesting books are always nice to find :)
I also like Dresden Files.Currently I'm reading The Name of the Wind and
Winterbirth by Brian Ruckley.
Soon I will start The Steel Remains by Richard Morgan.
@Edifanob, I have such mixed fillings about Gail Z. Martin, I quite love the covers, but how about the contents, I have seen quite opposite reviews, and I just don't know.
@Branka, that's true. But the only way to find out whether I like these books or not is to read them by myself.
So I bought the books and I will start to read The Summoner as soon as I have finished one of my current readings. Afterwards I will write a review.
I will let you know what I think about The Summoner.

I just finished the Kingdom of Thorn and Bone series by Gregory Keyes. It has some interesting visuals and I don't regret that I read them. :-)

@Mary,a lot of people told me to read the Kingdom of Thorn and Bone series. It's on my to-buy, to-read list like some :-) other books.
@Edifanob, they are on my to-read shelf, the same is with Keyes. This to-read stuff is growing to rapidly :)I also recommend The Last Wish - Andrzej Sapkowski

Anyway thank you for your recommendation.
@Edifanob, I just ordered second Sapkowski in english, can't wait :) I'm also thinking about the game, but I'm afraid that my computer doesn't agree with me.
Hello all who didn't post so far.It would be very kind to let us know which books you suggest.

I'm really interested in your suggestions because I always look for books which I don't know so far.

I like most of Elizabeth Haydon's "Symphony of Time" series (starts with "Rhapsody")"Assassin's Apprentice" and following by Robin Hobb
Finished "Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin a while ago and enjoyed it.
Loved the Bartimaeus Trilogy audio books. Simon Jones was the perfect voice.
How about Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series? Only if you don't mind some naughtiness in your fantasy. All Robin Hobb, as Laura suggested.
I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas for series I enjoyed nearly as much as NOTW!
About Robin Hobb, I must confess first trilogy is good, but I had a thing for Fitz, he is such a cry baby. But the second trilogy - Liveship Trades is for me better choice. But still, it's better to start with no. 1 ;)I liked Jacqueline Carey a lot, but it's not for everyone, it can be maybe a little perverse, but still not so much like Goodking and his Mord'Sith sadistic babes, but still not for all fantasy lovers, the same goes for T. Goodkind.
@Carri,would you be so kind as to explain to me the meaning of NOTW.

Are you looking for the meaning of the epic novel or the acronym? I can help with the one but I am poorly qualified to explain the other.
The Name of the Wind = NOTW.

@Mary,thank you. I'm not so familiar with all these acronyms.
Of course I know ASOIAF and LOTR but there are so many more.... :-)

@Laura,ASOIAF is one of my all-time favorite.
I didn't read a book from Elizabeth Haydon so far but her series Symphony of Ages is on my to-read list.
I love Robin Hobb. I read so far Farseer series and Tawny Man series. German edition of Liveship Traders
and first book of Soldier son are behind me in my shelf at home.

@Carry and @Branka,Jaqueline Carey sounds very interesting for me. As a lot of other books Kushiel is on my to-read list :-)
@Branka,
did you read Tawny Man series by Robin Hobb? It's the instalment of Farseer. Fitz is getting older...
I took a look at your bookshelves. You gave 3 stars to the first to books of Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. What's the reason for this? I bought these books too. Did I something wrong? Are tey worth reading?

Edifanob,I didn't really enjoy the Sword of Truth series, though I didn't read all of them so they could have gotten better. He seemed to be pushing a political agenda (objectivism) and it got on my nerves. Plus the characters never seemed to get a break, the books were full of tension, and I didn't find the characters really likable.
But, it definitely kept my attention. I did want to throw the book across the room, but not til after I was done because I needed to know what happened next! And I know a lot of people who love the series.
Branka you are right about the Kushiel series. It's definitely adults only and many people won't appreciate a lot of the sex scenes. I think Carey did a brilliant job of making the sexuality an integral part of the story which made me able to view it more objectively. Not that I'm all that squeamish but I'm kind of bitter, and do tend to roll my eyes a lot if a book is too sappy or lovey-dovey.
@Carri,thank you for comment concerning the Sword of Truth series. I will keep it in my mind when I start to read the first book of the series.

I like to inform you that there is a discussion about The Name of the Wind at SSFWorld forum:http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showth...
@Edifanob... :)About Erikson, I got through first book, I like him, but this is not a easy read, you must be 200 % in the book, there is so many names, places, english isn't quite easy, but still, Erikson is master off his profession.
Tawny Man series by Robin Hobb - I didn't start with this trilogy jet. The reason is again Fitz, I love the Fool, but Fitz...
Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind - It's a nice read, but for me this is a book that you take to the beach, a nice tree for back support and nice shadow, nice, cool wind in the air and Goodking in the hand. Good read, but very easy to digest. And I agree with Carri, first two books are nice, but then comes the politics.
Haha Bryce. I just finished reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, and I enjoyed it, so I'm set to read Mistborn next.
Bryce, you picked most of my favorite books from the past year! I would add "Steel Remains" by Richard Morgan and "Winterbirth" by Brian Ruckley. I also was also recently recommended the George R. R. Martin Crown of Swords series and burned through all the books within the span of a week or so. If you have not heard of Guy Gavriel Kay (Canadian author), please pick up his stand alone fantasy "Tigana" or his "Fionavar Tapestry" trilogy. An amazing talent!
Bryce,For some reason, Steel Remains came out in Canada much earlier. Having said that, I do have a friend who orders books for a book chain here in Canada, and do get the occasional advance copy! I hope you enjoy "Steel Remains", and give Winterbirth a try. I remember it took me a few chapters to get used to some of the names, etc. However, once I got into the book, I couldn't put it down, and loved the sequel. Happy reading!
Obviously NOTW goes without saying here but here are some of the others that I would recommend:Mistborn: The Final Empire
The Crown Conspiracy
Stardust
The Amulet of Samarkand
Sometimes I get too involved in my reading... staying up late, skimping on sleep... but I cant really afford to do that in my line of work. So, if I just want a fast read, I usually go for teenage fantasy:
The Artemis Fowl Series
Ranger's Apprentice
Genius.
As for adults, I guess I'm spoilt by David Gemmell books (I love Waylander, and Legend) as I prefer lots more action, than description. Though I really enjoyed Robin Hobb's Assasin and The Fool series.

YOu might want to checkout "The Amulet of Samarkand" for one of your fast YA reads. It fits the bill.
Laura wrote: "Find "The Amulet of Samarkand" as an audio book! Simon Jones does a fantastic job."Didn't know it had an audio version - Glad to hear the voice talent on it is good - the right/wrong voice can really make a difference when it comes to audio.

About half of these have already been mentioned, but I'll second or third them nonetheless.Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
The Old Kingdom/The Abhorsen Trilogy (has gone by both names) by Garth Nix
Startdust by Neil Gaiman
and Echoes of the Great Song by David Gemmell. Picked it up at the state library's discard book shop, hardcover for $2. It's a good read, but particularly worth reading for the character Viruk, who everyone thinks is crazy, and who also hears voices.
I just read Mistborn The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson and really loved it. Like NOTW, the magic is almost scientific. It has strict rules and is internally consistent. I really liked that about it.I have to disagree with the Scott Lynch recommendation. I was really annoyed by The Lies of Locke Lamora. I just couldn't make myself care anything about the protagonist. I had been really looking forward to reading it and was so disappointed.
While it's science fiction instead of fantasy, Crystal Rain by Tobias Buckell reads like a good fantasy novel. I thought it was excellent.
I'm currently reading Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson. It may sound weird, but it does kind of remind me of NOTW because of the educational/scientific setting involving Daniel Waterhouse, how Jack Shaftoe's adventures seem reminiscent of Kovthe's adventures and how Eliza can blend in anywhere like Deena does. "Quicksilver" is classified as science fiction, but it's really historical fiction that has a lot of science in it.

"
It's good sad though! Never fear!
I mean, I thought the ending was pretty brilliant actually, so it doesn't matter if it was a sad ending.
I have to add in a third comment for the Mistborn triology. I just finished it and I quite enjoyed it. Sanderson's other book, Elantris is also good but I didn't enojoy it as much as the Mistborn triology.
Thanks all for the book suggestions. Since I read books a lot faster than authors can write them, I was in need of some good suggestions. I'm working through a lot of them at the moment. I also like Robin Hobb, Sara Douglass, George RR Martin, L.E. Modesitt, Tolkien and of course Pat. For Sci-Fi, I like Heinlein, Asimov, Neal Stephenson, Peter Hamilton, and William Gibson.
Here's some not mentioned that I liked:James Clemens - The Banned and the Banished series
David Eddings - The Belgariad
Raymond E. Feist - The Riftwar Saga
Jim Butcher - Codex Alera Series
Terry Brooks - Shannara Series
I've been reading and buying fantasy books like a crazy woman lately, but I can't find anything that even comes close to how amazing The Name of the Wind was. Yeah, there are a ton of good books, but GREAT books only come every once in a great while. I'm almost resigned to the fact that The Name of the Wind was a complete anomaly. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can read next that will feed my addiction until I can get my hands on The Wise Man's Fear?
I sure don't. Many of the good fantasies are, at best, derived from previous works and worlds. One of the pleasures of The Name of the Wind is its being cut from new cloth. It's similar enough to this world that it is comprehensible, but it is not so obvious copied from others like the works of Jordan or Sullivan.
