Have finally managed to read that (as I started watching SGA too) I must say I enjoyed this book much more than the SG1 novelization of the pilot. It wasn't just a rip off of the script hastily put together into a book, there was some thought, character background, etc worked into it that felt more than just a script-to-book transition.
