I highly recommend both Persepolis and Anahita's Woven Riddle.

Yes, Persepolis is an amazing graphic novel. Anahita's Woven Riddle is another great story, involving a girl who chooses her husband by weaving a riddle into her tapestry. Words in the Dust is a new book by Trent Reedy, which I am looking forward to reading. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84...
The article is from 2008 and I just wonder if Goodreads is still blocked, or perhaps re-blocked? I have friends on here from Iran and we were in contact a lot over the past two years. I haven't heard from them in awhile though...Extraordinary Women from the Muslim World includes story of Shirin Ebadi from Iran, a Nobel Peace Prize Winner.
Figs and Fate: Stories About Growing Up in the Arab World Today
Thura's Diary
Santa Claus in Baghdad: Stories About Teens in the Arab World
A Thousand Veils
And there's a giveaway right now for Anahita's Woven Riddle:
