Misfit Ahhh, first author topic. I have really enjoyed her books. Tops is Calico Palace and Jubilee Trail, both mostly centered around California - although JT does cover the wagon train west. Celia Garth is a young women who finds herself a bit of a spy in Charlston during the Revolutionary War.

She also has written what's referred to as the "Plantation Trilogy" centered around Louisiana from the first colonization through WW1. Don't let the prices scare you, you can find them via interlibrary loan.

I've not read Tomorrow is Forever but I believe it's set during WWII. There's one she wrote called Golden Dreams but it is NF about California leading up to the Gold Rush

ToniS I'm about halfway through Calico Palace. So far, I'm finding the plot and characters sort of campy and melodramatic, but I must say I am learning a lot about what life was like in San Francisco during the Gold Rush. I've lived in California all my life and there's a lot of stuff I didn't know.

She's packed a lot into the front half of the book. I can't wait to see where it goes. I also have Celia Garth sitting on my pile and I definitely will be reading Jubilee Trail. All three of those have been re-released, so they're easy to get.

Misfit I really liked Kendra, she went through quite a lot. The latter half takes them back to San Francisco during the heyday of mad growth and the fires.

Many of California's gold rush towns (as well as the history) are still there and really an interesting place to visit. Some pretty good wineries back there as well as a haunted B&B or two :)
