Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments This is one of her shorter stories, included in the anthology called "The Lost." How did a dead body disappear off a ferry with over 3,000 passengers on board without anyone noticing?

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) I'm listening to the audio version of this now...will let you know what I think when I'm done.

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Okay Alyssa, I listened to the audio also. I enjoyed it, although I really prefer the longer ones.

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) This is my first audio book in this series and I must say I will definitely be getting more, lol! Love her Roarke *swoon* Definitely wish it was a full book I was listening too.

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) So if this audio book version, what Roarke's sound alike Alyssa?
Please tell me >.<
(Love Roarke too, and ehm, David Gandy, lol ^^)

PK Reeves | 14 comments Hmm who's animating Roarke voice?? Let me know.
I've never tried audio books... I'm always afraid that my patience would be tried if they did not hurry at my pace.. yes, I am a frentic word reader... I do not skip words but I feel a frenzy of needing to gobble up the plots by J D Robb.
( and ehmmm Damon ;P)

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) Are you called me Reeves? lol
I wonder, what is Irish accent sound alike..

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Susan Erickson is the reader and does everyone's voice. Roarke's is so well done that I never have any doubt that's it's him. She makes him sound incredibly sexy and self-assured, just like I imagined he would sound before I started listening. She also does a great job with the other characters. Mavis and Peabody have their own very unique voices, Mira's is soft and lilting, while's Eve's voices is harder, much like Susan Erickson's own voice. She uses a gruffer, stronger voice for the Commander and Feeney is easily distinguishable as well. Those are just a few examples. McNab's character has sort of like a "dude" voice; I can't think of any way else to describe it. I almost feel like they're real and I know them.

Audios do take longer to get through. These are so enjoyable that I usually don't want them to end and so the longer time doesn't bother me. For other audio books, I feel it depends a lot on the reader, the length of the book, and the amount of characters. When I pick up other audios at the library, I can usually tell if I can make it through, often by the 1st chapter.

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) What?
Vanessa do yo mean that Roarke's voice is done by woman?
(shocked)

PK Reeves | 14 comments WHAT ROARKE IS A WOMAN??? But I thought the point of audio books was that they had different voices animating the characters. Albeit you can have 1 woman do different women voices & vice versa for a man to do different characters. Does Susan Erickson then deepen her voice to project Roarke??

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) The audiobooks ever released in my country. Ughh, i want to hear how Roarke's voice sound alike >.<
(dont care if woman that filled his voice, lol)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) Susan Erickson does an AMAZING job narrating. I know it's a little weird getting used to the idea of one person doing the voices of all the characters, male or female, but honestly once you start listening you don't even think about it anymore. Publishing houses can't afford large budgets for audiobooks so they usually pay one person to narrate. However, that person is usually a trained theatre actor and they can bring the book alive through the words. Another narrator that does a wonderful job is Johanna Parker who narrates the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood books.
I strongly encourage each of you to listen, if/when you have the opportunity, to at least one In Death book. Roarke is to die for!

Gina Berry | 11 comments I was a over the road truck driver with my husband we drove team so I listen to audio tapes all of the time. There was 1 author that I only listened to 1 time was a book by Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum). anyway the voice did not sound like anything i had envisioned in my head so I would not listen to any of the death series. Once you have the characters set in your mind on how you see them I think it can mess it up with audio sometimes

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Susan Erickson does a great Roarke voice, and I mean great!!! All of her voices are awesome, and you really can differentiate the main and secondary characters. She really make them seem almost eerily real at times. I know it's hard to believe if you haven't heard one. Another great reader is George Guidall. And yes, he does the women and they are totally believable. I came across him when I listened to the Cat Who Series by Lilian Jackson Braun.

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) Finished Missing a couple of days ago and as usual was not disappointed. Now I'm trying to find all the books in audio format so I can listen at work, it was that good! The only voice that I was a little disappointed was Peabody, it just wasn't what I had envisioned for her. However, it will not keep me from listening because she does a great job bringing the story to life otherwise, IMO.

Cast List (view spoiler)

There are no spoilers in the list. It's only set up this way because of its length and for easy reference.

Belles | 156 comments The last few novellas in this series fell kind of flat for me, but this one was a home run! Lots of character development, and a great story that ties in with a couple backstories.

It's always tough for Eve when she has the burden of deciding that justice will only be served outside of the law. But as we know from previous books, some of the national agencies are corrupt and can't be trusted.

This was more of a miss for me, maybe because I needed more.
