Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments Does anyone know anything more about the second Dean Koontz book release for 2010, "What The Night Knows". I noticed that Amazon has a Dec. 28th release date. The only bit of news I came across for this book was that it would be "the biggest dog book he has written in a while". I wonder how he will add more "dog" since several releases discuss dogs in detail. The Random House website has the book listed but no cover image yet. The only details displayed are:

* Category: Fiction
* Format: Hardcover, 368 pages
* On Sale: December 28, 2010
* Price: $28.00
* ISBN: 978-0-553-80772-1 (0-553-80772-2)

I also noticed it a while back listed on Fantastic Fiction but there is absolutely no info there besides the Title and a release date of December 2010. You have more info than I have heard :-)

Nooo !

Oh, Mac, you know you want to read about pretty puppies (and precocious prepubescents). ;-) (pinching your cheek)

How can a Koontz book get to be any bigger on Dogs than last year's Breathless? It featured a Irish Setter on the cover and in the story and also a Golden Retriever Rescue. I'm curious to see what Dean serves up this time :-)

You don't have to pinch my cheek, reading such books feels like a slap. And another. And another...

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments I know, I don't need another "dog" book. Hmm, maybe the dog will be a sociopath...

Hey Tom, yes - the joke was good. It is all good. Cafepress sure has some cool stuff. Good fun.

Simon Ash | 7 comments It should come out before Christmas. It would make a great gift for your favorite Dean Koontz fan.

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments Any more news on this book? I have not heard much since my original post.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6122 comments Mod
There is an advertisement in the back of Lost Souls for this book saying it's a ghost story like you've never read before or something to that effect.

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Dustin wrote: "There is an advertisement in the back of Lost Souls for this book saying it's a ghost story like you've never read before or something to that effect."

A ghost story? :-(

Nicholas Beck | 16 comments Yeah, I receive the Useless News from Dean Koontz. There is one line in the "Stuff" section that states he finished a "very scary ghost story." I am going to buy it as soon as it is released and we will see how good the tale is.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6122 comments Mod
I love ghost stories, so I'm excited!

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments Me too. That's why I still think you should try Herbert's Haunted. It's one of the best ghost stories - I found it to be a homage to the classic Gothic novel - plus it's short lenght should appeal to you. Stay away from the audiobook though; the audible one is abriged, and it's propably the only version.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6122 comments Mod
Okay :-) I think I tried to read that book about 8 years ago - I'll give it another try sometime.

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments I consider it to be Herbert's highest achievement. I hope you'll like it. :)

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments Cool, I also like a good ghost story. I am looking forward to the release.

Jason Slovak (joeysdad) | 81 comments I posted this in the Giveaways discussion yesterday but thought it could go here too.

What the Night Knows is being given away through the Firstreads program. There are 25 copies and the deadline to enter is Sept. 30th. Here is the link:

Thanks I'll enter right now!

Agent 99 (agent99formerlykd) I won't even bother. I have a friend who never knows what to get me for Christmas... so once he found out I liked Koontz so much, he started buying me the November new release every year. So I already know that I'll get it for Christmas.

Agent 99 (agent99formerlykd) It is pretty handy! :)
I always know that I'll love my Christmas gift and have something good to read through the new year!

Did you feel that way last year? :-/

message 30: by Agent 99 (new)

Agent 99 (agent99formerlykd) I did before I got it yeah! LOL I just knew that a new koontz book was coming out and was excited that I'd get it for Christmas... It was only after the fact that I was let down.

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Kd wrote: "I did before I got it yeah! LOL I just knew that a new koontz book was coming out and was excited that I'd get it for Christmas... It was only after the fact that I was let down."

Yep, that's what I figured. I was excited for it too, until I had read it a little more than halfway.

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments Come on Jason, we all know you want to bash it. Give it one star...one precious little starrr...

message 33: by Jaice (last edited Aug 24, 2010 01:19PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Maciek wrote: "Come on Jason, we all know you want to bash it. Give it one star...one precious little starrr..."

Nope, I enjoyed the first ~60%, so it would be fraudulent for me to give it 1 star. I have considered giving it 2 stars though, debating whether I disliked the last ~40% more than I liked the first ~60%.

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments I still can't see how you, being a science buff, can swallow all the fallacies in that book and even give it three stars. If you were watching a movie and it suddenly faded to black after approximately 60% would you give it 3 stars?

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Maciek wrote: "I still can't see how you, being a science buff, can swallow all the fallacies in that book and even give it three stars. If you were watching a movie and it suddenly faded to black after approxima..."

It depends on how good the first 60% was. :-P

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments I like your thinking. It reminds me of when I went to see "Inception" and the entire theater groaned at the ending. LOL it was funny.
Guess I'm just past defending shitty books. I didn't enjoy the preceeding 60% in any way, so my one star rating is justified.
I really hope this new book won't suck.

What was wrong with the ending of Inception?! I think it was perfect and was exactly what I was expecting. I know you didn't like Breathless at all, so I am satisfied with your 1-star rating. I have the same hope.

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments Well, it was exactly what I was expecting too. It was kind of obvious that it would end that way, and the entire audience groaned "awwww" but in a good way. Guess we were expecting something different. Still, I enjoyed this film a lot, definitely one of the best movies of 2010 so far.

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments I entered as well. I think our group should get priority ;)

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Maciek wrote: "...Still, I enjoyed this film a lot, definitely one of the best movies of 2010 so far."

I agree completely and would even say it has been the best film released so far this year.

It might as well be the case. The action scenes were great.
We have a few strong candidates coming this year. Have you seen The Expendables? It's a great guy flick.

I'm all hyped up for "Machete" and the film adaptation of "Never Let Me Go" - I just learned yesterday about it.
Plus the last Potter movie...it's a good year.

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments I forgot to ask: did you see Shutter Island?

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Maciek wrote: "I forgot to ask: did you see Shutter Island?"

Yes, I wrote a review of it over in the goodflicks group, which I also did for Inception.

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments I'm glad you enjoyed both of them. Shutter Island has great cinematography - excellent use of light.

Jason Slovak (joeysdad) | 81 comments Matt R. wrote: "I entered as well. I think our group should get priority ;)"

That's exactly what I was thinking and why I posted the link in here. If they're giving away 25 copies, seems like a couple of them should be coming to Koontzland :)

Kelsey (thebestthereis07) I just saw an update on facebook about Deans new "novella" called Darkness Under The Sun. Just wondering if anyone else had heard about its release.
