Sorry... sooooooooooooo busy... heard Steve Brown ("Key Life") say "busy as a mosquito in a nudist colony"... looking forward to participating when things lighten up a little.
Katie - has your dad told you about the song "Mother Russia"? Some time back you had mentioned the song "Ocean Gypsy"... "Mother Russia" is by the same group that (originally?) did "Ocean Gypsy". It is about Alexander Solzhenitsyn.I would be happy to participate... I get in about 10-20 minutes of reading a day... when I am getting ready for bed LOL... takes me a while to get through a book.
Actually ... I probably won't try to start reading it until after VBS... the week of 6/23... hope somebody reminds me :)
My same concern: my "pre-global warming glacial" pace of reading... maybe "Goodnight, Moon"? ;) I am game; just short on suggestions
That picture is from back in our Gwinnett days. I'll take a new pic under consideration.
Any objections to a Classic from anyone?

Not sure exactly counts as a classic, but can I vote against Wuthering Heights, Great Gatsby, and Lord of the Flies?
On The Road - Jack Kerouac
Cry, The Beloved Country - Alan Paton
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith
My Antonia - Willa Cather
These are all books that I haven't read and that are highly acclaimed and suggested for "book clubs". Given that I haven't read them, I also can't speak to any questionable content. Any votes?

I think I've read My Antonia before, although I don't recall anything about it. I'm good with any of the other three.
Sounds like Cry will be our first book. I've never been in a book club before, so I'm not sure how these things work. Do we set certain reading goals for the group, or plan to discuss the book as we go, or just read the whole thing and discuss afterward?
Uh....good question. I am in between books so I can start as early as Wednesday, which is when it will arrive. I try to read classics in paper form rather than Kindle. Odd quirk.
Wanna get the book and see how it is formatted (chapters, parts, etc., and figure out what makes most sense?

Sorry, I haven't been part of this discussion...I tend to forget to get on goodreads. I would like to get in on this though, I'll go ahead and get the book and be awaiting instruction as to how we'll break it down with our club. =)
What???? I hadn't started it yet because nobody had given any direction as to how far we were going to go before discussing. No cheating Jer ;)
I got sucked in. I think that it makes most sense for everyone to go at their own pace and to discuss after completing. Discussing by chapter or section would be cumbersome and forced. From my perspective, the big picture is to, over time, develop a group of shared reading experience that can foster more meaningful discussion when we are together. Thoughts?
While I acknowledge that I will be one of the worst to perpetuate our non-discussion of any book, I had to share the following from my quiet time this morning. Following a cross-reference from Psalm 37 on the verse about "the LORD bringing forth your righteousness as the light", I found a phrase in Is.58:13 that reminded me of a scolding I heard more than once in "Cry".Read the verse (in ESV just in case). Curious who else notices the phrase that I remember. :)
