Has anyone here read this? A neat old copy of this has been passed around among my friends and I've had it for months now. I need to read it so I can discuss it with them, but I haven't been able to find the motivation and I'm hoping to find some here!

Dwain Anderson I hope this forum will work for you. I write in my books and I read and passed my copy of Jack London's The Sea Wolf with my friends. They saw my margin writing and wrote thoughts and things of their own in the the margin. When I got it back I had to re-read it to get into their thoughts. We still talk about the book and I put that copy up with my journals. I encourage any group of friends to do the same. When reading in a group setting I think it enhances the experience. Like watching a movie in a theater.

That's a great idea, Dwain! Thanks for sharing!

Lenore Riegel (lenoreriegel) | 9 comments I read this as a very young girl, but I still remember almost every detail. Much more of the reality of growing up in that time found in the book compared to the (excellent) movie.
I urge you to read it - and I believe it does hold up.

Joe (joehohmann) | 144 comments Yipes...not only the only book I've read twice, but also my favorite movie. I've probably seen the tape at least 8 times (oddly my other favorite movie is "The Godfather"...go figure). Maybe being 70 has something to do with this :)

Jeanne (jeanne_voelker) | 52 comments A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of a handful of books that my mother read when she was in her teens, I read at the same time in my life, and then at least one of my daughters read--maybe all of them. I've lost track.

Others were Daddy Longlegs, The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, and The Egg and I.
And of course, Alcott, and the Nancy Drew series.

Harold Titus (haroldtitus) | 98 comments I read the book in my twenties and remember being very moved. You've persuaded me to read it again.

Anne Schaetzke | 8 comments A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a fantastic book. I think you'll love it -- especially if you grew up in a city.

It is one of those 'keeper' books for me.

Harold Titus (haroldtitus) | 98 comments I finished reading it June 8 and reviewed it here June 11. Wonderful book.
