Looking for Recommendations: Love-Hate Relationships
I like those kinds of stories too. I'm trying to think of some I've read with this theme. I'd have to think on it.
Karen Marie Moning's Fever series comes to mind, although book 5 doesn't come out until December, so we don't know the conclusion to the "relationship". Great series so far though!
The Hunger Games trilogy is awesome (book 3 to come out in August) It has a lot of action - a real page turner. I wouldn't quite describe the relationship as love/hate - but for various reasons (and without spoiling the premise for you) the characters never quite get together, though the tension and chemistry is extremely palpable.I'm counting the days till Mockingjay (book 3) hits the shelves!
Natacha wrote: "The Hunger Games trilogy is awesome (book 3 to come out in August)... I'm counting the days till Mockingjay (book 3) hits the shelves!"I can't wait either! :) LOVE this series.
I started reading a series where the two main characters are attracted to each other but are also sworn enemies. Very love-hate throughout. It got on my nerves a bit after a while but that's just me! A lot of good action scenes. Not a bad read. Nightwalker, Dayhunterby Jocelynn Drake
the Mortal Instruments books are great! They are filled with action... i don't guess you would call it a love/hate story-because they dont "hate" each other... they dont exactly get along very well though, and then theres this whole issue that keeps them apart when they belong together... it's an amazing series, i simply adore them!
In Chloe Neills "Chicagoland Vampires"-Series there's a kind of love-hate-relationship: Merit hates Ethan for making her a vampire, but then... well... those gorgeous looking vampire guys are hard to hate... ;)
And, of course: "Soulless" by Gail Carriger. A typical love-hate-relationship including constant bickering... *g*

Nia, "Chicagoland Vampires" is a really good suggestion.
Natacha wrote: "The Hunger Games trilogy is awesome (book 3 to come out in August) It has a lot of action - a real page turner. Plus, have you heard that they are going to make "The Hunger Games" into a movie. I wonder if it will be good. You never know.
^^ Mockingjay comes out in August (I think). I third Chicagoland Vampires! I love Kate/Curran and Cat/Bones, but this series is close. I will have to check out Nightwalker. Thanks for the suggestion.
Even though I love The Mortal Instruments (it's my fav series) and The Hunger Games, I don't think they are similar. There's a different feel between YA and adult sexual tension.
Also The Gardella Vampire Chronicles has a love hate relationship in it. Not so much for the first one (it's there, but in the background), but things change for the second book. The first book is
, which has a lower rating, but the books get much better as they go along. I still enjoyed the first one though.
I have to 2nd Karen Marie Moning's "Fever Series" - its got one of the BEST "tension relationships" between the main characters - plus others that add to it. Good luck!!
The love-hate thing is starting to bug me in Some Girls Bite: A Chicagoland Vampires Novel: A Chicagoland Vampires Novel, Book 1 Merit seems very immature for 27. And Ethan's macho thing is getting annoying. But that's just me. Everyone else seems to be loving this book!
I love when books have a love/hate thing going on...especially in UF when it is drawn out over several books. I love the tension and war of emotion. Good Stuff! My favorites are

i love "love/hate" relationships...too bad ive read all these. i wish there was more.
The Downside Ghosts has a great love/hate relationship -- but it isn't funny like with Barrons, Adam, Bones or Curran -- it is emotionally painful and very moving. One of the best UF series I have read:

I didn't enjoy Chicagoland very much, it seems to be a cross between chick lit and fantasy and I totally didn't like the heroine (Merit) - but to each his/her own! (:
The books by Karen Chance have love-hate relationships. In the Cassie Palmer books, Pritkin starts out as a real ass, and then Cassie gradually warms up to him.
In the Dorina Basarab series, Dory starts to like a vampire, whose breed she usually kills.
JD Robb's In Death series is known for Eve and Roarke. Their's isnt a love/hate relationship, but there's Eve's aide Peabody (and later partner) and her love/hate relationhip with Detective McNab. There is the added bonus of a bit comedy as well; they're one of the reasons I've continued with the series...
(I think there are almost 30 books)
I just started the Sirantha Jax series by Ann Aguirre. It is Sci Fi romance, but the same character is the POV through all the stories. I love this series so far. The first book starts off with a definite love/hate relationship between March and Sirantha -- and they continue to have serious problems (attraction and love aside) in book #2.

Mystery and Suspense and Good Romance and Non-Trashy Comedy all in one - what more can we ask for? (: [though the cases get a bit tired sometimes... but then out comes another book that redeems the series in my eyes]

I had no idea that I would enjoy sci-fi romance sooo much! Now I'm searching for more! Simply awesome! I couldn't put them down!
Yay! I am so excited someone else loves them -- did you read all 4? I am holding myself back and haven't started #3 yet -- although I own it and really want to. Jax is such a real person in how Aguirre writes her.

Not looking forward to waiting for the next book.. I need to know what happens.. yesterday! hehe
A lot of people were freaking out that #4 ended with a huge cliffhanger... personally I found the ending satisfying and just felt that it left an interesting lead in for the next book.
Yeah exactly. It technically is, I guess, but I felt like it was an appropriate and exciting one rather than frustrating and stupid.

I love Pritkin! LOL, he was so bad in the first book, I didn't even guess he was going to be a potential love interest.
I have read many many series both YA and A but i am at that point where YA just don't do it for me no more, so i am looking for a good old adults only 18+ series... Book with a love/hate relationship that i have already read.... Patricia Briggs: Mercy Thompson,Devon Monk: Allie Beckstrom,Ilona Andrews: Kate Daniels & The Edge,Richelle Mead: Dark Swan series so if anyone has some good Recommendations plz do tell.....
I have read most of the series people have listed and they are all good! That being said nobody has a bigger love hate relationship then Dante Valentine and Japhrimel in the Lilth Saintcrow saint City books. You even question it yourself like should these two characters really be together?
I don't know if anyone has reccomended them but the rile jensen vampire/shifter series. Its the best out there.
CE Walker writes under the pen name of Gail Carriger. Under that name she write a series called the parasol protectorate. There is a big love/ hate thing between the two main characters. the series has quite a bit of action as well as light hear-ted humor.
Candy wrote: "CE Walker writes under the pen name of Gail Carriger. Under that name she write a series called the parasol protectorate. There is a big love/ hate thing between the two main characters. the series..."I love this series. It's a great witty steam-punk, Alexia and Connal crack me up.
Candy wrote: "CE Walker writes under the pen name of Gail Carriger. Under that name she write a series called the parasol protectorate. I loved the first two Parasol Protectorate books in the series, "saving" #3. I'm running to see what C.E. Walker has available to read - thanks!
p.s. Did you mean "C.E. Murphy" who writes the Walker Papers UF series? Searching G/R and amazon for C.E. Walker, both return only results for C.E. Murphy's Walker Paper series. Thanks.

I just finished
, which was totally wonderful. There is that exact kind of relationship you described in it - they hate each other, they are both prickly and difficult people who like to criticize, it is really funny, and they fall madly in love.
Christen wrote: "Tamara wrote: "I have read many many series both YA and A but i am at that point where YA just don't do it for me no more, so i am looking for a good old adults only 18+ series... Book with a love/..."Christen sorry for such a the late reply,
Both of these series were good but out of them i would have to go for the Allie Beckstorm series more i was hooked from the start. Loved everything about the books i think it was very well written if i say so my self i could not put the books down and can't wait for the next to come out but when it come to the Dark Swan series i would say that i wasn't into it that much but i did keep reading and it got better in the end so i will keep up with the series and wait for the next book to come out but it didn't keep me up all night wanting to read more like the Allie Beckstorm series did.
Tamara wrote: "Christen wrote: "Tamara wrote: "I have read many many series both YA and A but i am at that point where YA just don't do it for me no more, so i am looking for a good old adults only 18+ series... ..."That's perfectly okay, better late than never! I'm so happy to hear that about the Allie Beckstorm series! Those have been at the top of my TBR pile forever and for some reason I keep choosing something else.

Crissa - I've read all of these except for the Dark Swan series do you recommend this? Anyone else read this series? I love finding new series to read. Christen - I also have Allie Beckstrom queued up in my TBR list. I haven't jumped into that yet either.

I'm getting ready to read downside ghosts today! Good to see a recommendation posted here.
The Love-Hate-Love relationship is my absolute favorite as well! You have all named some of the best and I have to reiterate:
Kate/Curran from Kate Daniels series:
"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty." - Kate first time she meets Curran
Cassie/Pritkin from Cassandra Palmer series: "Pritkin moved into view as Tomas dragged me backwards. he had his shotgun out and was glaring at me with something close to hatred in those clear eyes."..."Pritkin might be a hostile son of a bitch, but he was a damn good guy to have in a fight."
Merit/Ethan from Chicagoland Vamps:
"Just to review, you're pissed about being made a vampire, and we hate this Ethan Sullivan guy, right?" - Merit's best friend Mallory
"Oh, yeah," I assured her. "We hate him." - Merit
"Are you asking me to be your mistress?"
"Yes"
"Oh, my God."
"Is that a yes?"
"No, Ethan, Jesus. Definitely not."
Mac/Jericho Barrons from the Fever series:
"I didn't trust Jericho Barrons farther than I could throw him, which was a great big Not At All..."
"How did you find me?"
"You procured a hired conveyance at my establishment"
"We call them taxis where I come from. And bookstores." God, he was stuffy.
"We call them manners where I come from, Ms. Lane. Have you any?"
Jax/March from Sirantha Jax series:
"From the first moment he entered my cell and caught me on the verge of tears, he's seen more of that than probably any other living soul. It occurs to me that, for the sake of symmetry, I should probably kill him"
"And maybe, if I'm honest, I'm a little jealous - not of March, he's an asshole, but because nobody ever tried to take care of me like that"
"I especially don't want to remember rubbing my face against his throat and liking it. I think I need to kill him."
And here's one that no one mentioned so maybe I'm the only one that likes this relationship. But this is more of a Hate-like-Hate relationship:
Rachel/Trent from the Hollows series. I can't wait to see what happens between them next!
Thanks for a great discussion.
One great series with the love/hate theme is the Anita Blake books by Laurel K. Hamilton. The later books are awful, but the first few are filled with non-stop action and witty exchanges. Definitely a must read with this theme. Guilty Pleasures
I just finished Enemy Within which is a Sci-Fi Romance along the same lines as the Sirantha Jax series, good love/hate but it's one of those series where the next book will be two different people who were side-characters in the first one.
