This book was incredible. Anyone who hasn't read it SHOULD!

Melissa A wonderful book! He has a new one appartently...Messiah's Handbook: Reminders for the Advanced Soul

Steve Merrick I'll check that out, but must not get too obviously mysitical when I read it. ;-)

Bryer I had this book given to me by a friend. I read it and I was just amazed with the quality and its ability to get people to question things and believe in things again. It was awe inspiring and perfect in its own way. I recommended it to one friend who I knew would appreciate it and he got three of his friends to read it within the week. One of them cried and all agreed the book had something that most lack. The book brought some part of them back to life. I give it two thumbs up, five stars and all the best praise.

Lyn I read this book in 1979 for the first time and since then I have given it as a gift over 40 times. It is probably one of my most favourite books of all time. I read it at an important time in my life - at the age of 19 - and it impacted me and even changed the way I approach my life. It was a simple, easy read but chocked full of wisdom. I call it the magic book; it always seems to open at the page I need most to read. So happy to see people enjoying it to this very day!

Joe McPlumber I lent this book to a girlfriend in college. She returned it, and wide-eyed unraveled astonishment she asked me, "this stuff can't be real can it?".

I guess you would've had to be there but the upsetting and overturning of a worldview is a beautiful sight to behold.

Anyway my favorite part was the parable-within-a-parable about the little water critters clinging to the reeds of the stream, until one of them decides to let go. That's every messiah's message in a nutshell. Yeah, you will probably get dashed on the rocks but we all have the ability to be free if we will just stop clinging to what we know, to comfort and safety.

Dave I read this book in 1978 and have often suggested it to friends. Other than classic narrative literature, and Montaigne's essays, there aren't many texts which deserve to be re-read, again and again.

message 8: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Pinkston I also read this book when I was about 20 and I've read it every year since, just to remind myself to keep an open mind. One of my favorite books.

Jack This book was given to me by a very dear friend. It was incredible in terms of making one think about life. Granted it was "beyond" most comprehension of everything but let's one know what the possibilities are. I too, read it once a year just to remind myself what is possible. "There once was a . . . "

Wow - same here, except I first read it in 1978. I can't remember how many times I have given this as a gift - usually together with Jonathan. Hits the spot without being sanctimonious.

Nicollette I got this beautiful book as a farewell gift from a friend and now I am giving this book as a gift every chance I get. It is also the first book that I recommend to everyone.
I have never been disappointed by a book that I have read of Richard Bach's. He is by far my favorite author. I am trying to get my generation to know more about books and less about television.

message 12: by Rey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rey Dekker television will make you stupid and, unfortunately, has taken over the world...ride a bike sometime down any street in any town in any state after dusk and see just how many houses have the Glowing Tube flickering through the windows....depressing...

Kressel Housman That glowing tube is just as likely to be a computer screen these days.

Shelly Ann This was my first ever (Read book)! I read it while visiting my grandma in Florida one summer. I loved it!

Bonnie Lynn Wonderful book. My friend and I both loved it and I, too, have given it as a gift. It never fails to lift your heart if you're feeling a bit down. Wishing Mr. Bach well as he recovers from his accident.

Farrukh Naeem This book started my love affair with Mr Richard Bach - and I devoured anything by him soon after.

Rich Silvers This book is life-changing. Lots of great quotes that stay with you. One favorite: "Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours."

Jim Massoth I have always loved to fly.But for many years now money, and life have keep me grounded...so when I read "Stranger to the Ground" I was hooked...

Sharon Lippincott This book is a total classic. I first read it in 1982 while staying alone in a friend's house. I copied all the pithy sayings onto a yellow pad. I soon bought my own copy and have reread many times. I think I'm due again. I love everything Richard Bach has written -- I think I've read it all.

Carol Lyn wrote: "I read this book in 1979 for the first time and since then I have given it as a gift over 40 times. It is probably one of my most favourite books of all time. I read it at an important time in my l..."

Ditto Lyn! This is one of my favorite books as well... (I like the way they seem to think it is a new book!) love how timeless it has become...

message 21: by Jen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen Cooper This is my all-time favourite book and I, too, have given away many copies, only to make sure I replace them quickly. Every time someone expresses an interest, I give them my copy without question or hesitation. It seems that this has become a common way for people to discover this wonderful little book. I think that alone speaks volumes about how important it is.

Me, too, Lyn. I can't count the number of times I've given away a copy of this book!

message 23: by Rey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rey Dekker ...I buy them whenever I find them...just got another copy last week in a bargain bin at the North Dakota State bookstore...$1...which is about double what I normally pay...LOL...I also buy Jonathan Livingston Seagull whenever possible...second hand stores, etc...just scored a hardcover copy a couple weeks back for .59 cents...sweet...and the dust cover has a quote from another favorite writer...Ray Bradbury...Dandelion Wine...classic...

message 24: by Buzz (new) - rated it 5 stars

Buzz Malone I buy them always too, and yet never have a copy. I must have bought a hundred of them. I always give them to someone. What a lovely story. For many years in my youth, it served as my personal bible.

Kathryn Magee I read this book in 1980, and almost every year since. I have given away so many copies, I lost count a long time ago. I made my kids read it, and they've had their friends read it. I would have to say, this book is probably the most influential book I've ever read, it changed my life and will always be my favorite book!! Like so many on this page, Illusions and Jonathan have such a life changing message that I am constantly buying them and giving them to people I meet.

I understand your pain.... It is a book I have bought in hardback (both new and used) over the years and have handed it out like candy to inquiring readers that have asked me for a good read. Though I have a copy now that will never be given out, since it is a signed first edition. However, that will not dissuade me from buying and gifting other editions of this wonderful piece of work.

Cheryl McGonigle This is one of my all time favorite books. I have re-read it many times over the years and it is my favorite book to give as a gift.
Every time I read the book I get something more from it on a very personal level. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.
Cheryl
