message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

i have never read Jane Eyre or the magicians nephew, sorry im no help.... lol! 6 really i couldnt read that big of books at age 7!!!!!!!!

message 15: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments uNiKue I knew you were British when you said "grammar school"! I would love to visit one day. Im a huge Jane Austen fan so I really want to take a tour of her home, places she wrote about, etc.

Anywho, a few people have said that Nightlight is actually funny but then others havent. I probably wont be reading it to find out though! I'm sure its gonna say something to diss the series and then it'll piss me off.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm curious about nightlight. What is the actual plot? I'm thinking of reading it but if it has stupid humour and is not really funny, then I won't bother.

Yep. I'm british! lol. I havnt actually been to Jane Austen's home, but I have been to Shakespeare's, only this year, as a school trip. It was really interesting. It was only an hour away from where my school is ( I live in Birmingham.) So what's your favourite Jane Austen book?

message 17: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments If you click on the book it should give you info about Nightlight, I dont know too much about it myself. Nightlight: A Parody of Twilight

My fav Jane Austen book is definetly Pride and Prejudice. I think Elizabeth bennet is a great heroine! Shes strong, has good morals, and can admit when shes wrong. My favorite movie adaptation though is Sense and Sensibility with Kate Winslet, the screen writer did a beautiful job!

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read the 1st few chapters of pride and prejudice in school, I didn't get to finish it but I will sit down and start again (one day) I loved the film, the one with keira knightly.

Nightlight looks kinda stupid. I'd read it if it was funny, but looking at the blurb it just looks like a load of crap.

message 19: by Alethea (new)

Alethea Rivera (alethearivera) the tree sitters. i hated it.

I could not even finish The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold. She wrote The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold The Lovely Bones which I absolutely loved...but this one was just awful!

message 21: by Alethea (new)

Alethea Rivera (alethearivera) i hate that. but the problem with me is that i have to finish the book no matter how much i hate it. i just got to finish it and i get so mad at myself for finishing them but its just a have too. (i sound wierd) lol.

message 22: by Stephanie, Loves Vamps and Werewolves but Zombies scare me!! (new)

Stephanie | 4175 comments Mod
Oh no you don't sound weird at all...I am the same way...I always finish a book I start no matter how bad it is. The fact that Almost Moon is the only book I have never finished says it all!!

message 23: by Alethea (new)

Alethea Rivera (alethearivera) i get you. yay! i'm not wierd. lol.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

yeh. I understand. You just have a need to finish it, even though it may be really boring. I generally start skim reading once i want to finish a really bad book.

message 25: by Alethea (new)

Alethea Rivera (alethearivera) yeah. i do the same at times.

message 26: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments Reading the summary for Almost Moon it almost sounds good. But lemme guess what happens. The line that the mom crosses is that she cheats on her husband with someone close to the family!

message 27: by Alethea (new)

Alethea Rivera (alethearivera) nice prediction.

message 29: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments Ok I've got to add a new book to this list. Now I admit, maybe Im not giving the author a fair chance, I didnt finish the book, and maybe I just feel so extremely let down because I was sooooo pumped up to read it...But I must say that I am REALLY disappointed with Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner. The way I see it, if the boo is so bad that I cant even FINISH it, then that means its awful. For the first time ever I can finally say I've encountered a book that was badly written. The main character is supposed to be actually living her life, but she often goes through these weird flashbacks. For much of the book you cant tell whats a flashback and whats real life. I was really let down by this book and I would NOT recommend it to anyone! Im really sad about it! lol...not really but it was a bummer!

♥♥Mari♥♥ (twilightdreamlover) | 23 comments Well, here's the book I absolutely DETEST: "Wuthering Heights". I have read this book THREE times, just to see if there was something I wasn't getting. The first time was in high school. I didn't finish it then. Then I read it completely a few years ago. I couldn't see anything remotely good in it, except for they writing style, and the way she portrays the characters, which, I admit, are very well done.

I hate Heathcliff with every fiber of my being!!!! This book is more about his revenge on totally innocent people, than about his love for Catherine Earnshaw.

Well, the THIRD time I read it, I knew for certain it wasn't me. It was the book.

On the other hand, I LOVE "Jane Eyre"!!!!!

message 31: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments LOL.... I literally laughed out loud when you said you read the book 3 times just to see if you were missing something! That is exactly how I felt about Jane Eyre. I've never been able to make it all the way through the book, because I find that its just so uninteresting. (Sorry I know you love it) Its funny how you can be so head over heels about one book and then detest another!

Sigh...such is life!

♥♥Mari♥♥ (twilightdreamlover) | 23 comments Hi, Krystal! Yeah...it's interesting how the very same book can have a completely different effect on different readers, isn't it? The Twilight Saga is a prime example. There are those of us who LOVE it, and those of us who can't stand it! I think it's unbelievable... I have read the entire series TWICE already, and this time, it wasn't because I thought I was missing something! Lol. No, it was because I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!

Yesterday, I happened to open my collector's edition of the first book in the series. It was as if I were picking it up for the first time, even though I know the major plot events. So it looks like I'm starting it again for the THIRD time!! (BTW, I have FOUR copies of "Twilight" -- one hardcover, one trade paperback, one collector's edition, and one mass market paperback).

Getting back to the Bronte sisters now, I'd like to know what you think of "Wuthering Heights".

message 33: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments Well Ive never read Wuthering Heights. I've actually never really had the desire to read any other books by the Bronte Sisters other than Jane Eyre. Even after Bella and Edward were talking about it, I still didnt feel lead to read it. If I ever change my mind though I will definetly let you know.

Honestly I think Jane Eyre has kinda left a bad taste in my mouth for all of the Bronte sisters. I just have the thought that Wuthering Heaights is gonna be superlong and boring. :( I know thats bad.

Maybe one day!

message 34: by ♥♥Mari♥♥ (last edited Sep 21, 2010 07:19AM) (new)

♥♥Mari♥♥ (twilightdreamlover) | 23 comments Believe me, Krystal, WH will leave a HORRIBLE taste in your mouth! (On the other hand, you might very well end up loving it. Who knows?)

Some people have left comments on my Amazon review, telling me that I just can't appreciate the book, because it's a masterpiece. One member told me she couldn't believe that I preferred a "vapid" vampire romance (in other words, The Twilight Saga) to "Wuthering Heights".

It got so bad, I deleted the review, and re-posted it, with some minor changes. Of course, when I deleted it, all the nasty little comments went right along with it! Hee, hee!

I haven't checked back recently, but I will. If I see any more snippy comments, I'll re-delete the review and put it right back up again. I have the right to voice my opinion, after all.

BTW, I posted the very same review here on Goodreads. I haven't gotten any coments either pro or con. You might want to read it, and decide whether you want to get into this book. My guess is that you won't, after you read my review! Lol.

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments lol...Im at work now but I will read it when I get a chance...SOunds like it should be intersting..lol!

message 36: by Jacquel (new)

Jacquel (clairevioletthorpe) | 103 comments I have read "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and thought "WORST SERIES EVER"!!!

#2 on my list is "Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows", because it was just the worst series finales I have ever read.

message 37: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments Really??? You didnt like Lemony Snicketts! Oh my neices and nephews would go crazy if they read that, its their favorite book. I havent read them (and probably wont) but I've seen the movie and it was pretty good. It was very funny, but you cant really expect less than funny from Jim Carrey :)

message 38: by Jacquel (new)

Jacquel (clairevioletthorpe) | 103 comments Yeah. I had a hard time getting into Lemony Snickett.

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Hey Jacquel, I'm a huge Potterhead and Deathly Hallows disappointed me at first too. The timing is really awkward at times. I had to read it two or three times to really appreciate it.

Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging. I hated that

Yeah. I didn't like reading it at all; and the epilogue sounded like very bad fanfiction.

Oh my goodness I really liked that one too. I thought it was funny but the movie was better.

message 46: by AlbertaJenn (new)

AlbertaJenn The Society of S was horrible! It felt like it was written by an amateur. She was coy about the father, dropping these obvious hints but pretending that it was a big secret.

*spoiler* the dad is a vampire. Like mentioning that he didn't eat or go out in the sun, and experimented with blood, didn't give away the big mystery.

I gave up after half way, it was that painful.

message 47: by Jack (new)

Jack moore (jackgaiman) Shiver.
Just a terrible read.

message 48: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Duff Shiver? As in the one by Maggie Stiefvater? If you're talking about that one, I quite enjoyed it.

message 49: by Jack (new)

Jack moore (jackgaiman) Yea thats the one. I thought it was terribly unlikeable. The characters where inconsistent and boring, the premise while intriguing was mishandled. The switching of perspectives can be a great literary technique (e.g. Game of thrones) was pointless as it offered no insights or alternate plotpoints. Personally i really disliked it but this thread is all opinion based and if you liked it more power to you

message 50: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Duff Mmhmm. I liked it, but yes, it's an opinion thread.

One that I couldn't finish reading (this has only happened three times in my life) was the Evolution of Calpurnia Tate.
