Good review at the Onion A/V Club.

Has anyone read this? I like the cover; the title implies zombies feasting, juxtaposed with the International Symbol for RSS Feeds.

I haven't even heard of it, but it sounds interesting. I agree, the cover is a great eye-catcher.

I read it last week and really enjoyed it. Very different from most zombie books. Definitely one to put on your to-read list.

Actually picked it up a few days ago in paperback. On page 100 or so and I'm enjoying it. I like the slant so far, not your usual hunker down zombie apocalypse. Has a modern almost teenage/20 something feel. Myself a bit old for that but LOL I like it.

read it. It was very good. The zombies are there for background (man vs. supernatural) but.... they are not the focus of the story. The story takes place in the future after the zombie apocalypse. Investigative reporters, alternate media, presidential campaign, conspiracy and betrayal are woven together to give the zombie genre a bit of life.
This is not the Morning Star Saga. It is not World War Z. It is something new and exciting. I am a big fan of the zombie apocalypse. I hunger for it as if it were brains, but this is a nice change.

Gave up on X-RATED BLOODSUCKERS around page 130. Started to bore me the last 100 pages. Will start an Anita Blake novel next.

I hate giving up on a book, but if it doesn't pick up after a chapter or two it's time to bail. Last time I did that was with DROOD.

Shame, too, because it seemed promising in the beginning.

My best advice is to go back to it. It is true that it bogs down into a wordy Blog for the sake of talking about blogging a Presidential run in the middle. BUT, it picks back up again and rolls along. If you can get past the hump so to say, it does redeem itself.

I finished the book. It seems to me that Mira Grant has completely neglected the fact that she was writing a zombie/horror novel. The book isn't even remotely scary but what's worse is that it's not really about zombies. There's barely any zombies in it. Zombies only show up 4 times in the entire book. Think about that before decide to read a 570 page novel supposedly about zombies.

I only got half-way through this book. Zombies were barely mentioned and I really didn't care for the story.

Well, I am glad to know in advanced that is not really a zombie book.

This is why it's important to read reviews sometimes. The high rating on goodreads is very deceiving imo.

I liked this one a lot-- but the dh didn't. I found the idea fascinating and part of what intrigues me about end of the world books is how humans go on living afterward. It is more than a straight brain-feed though and purists would do better with Briane Keene.

Flint, you have to look beyond the lack of zombies. In Feed, zombies are everywhere, people are frightened of the zombies but they have learned to cope... Think of all of the things that were once a big deal but have become common in our lifetime: cellphones, downloading books and music in an instant instead of waiting weeks for them to come in the mail. No one gets jazzed up about someone that can carry a cell phone, but in the late 80s and early 90s a cell phone was a big deal. I think that Grant got it right.

The point of any zombie based book is that the zombies play an integral part in the story somehow. That was not the case with "Feed," which was more about blogging and conspiracies and viruses, but not specifically about zombies. I'm sorry, but this is not a zombie book. People should be aware of this before committing the time to read it.

Flint, I have to disagree with ya. It is a Zombie book. Just one with less emphasis on the actual Zombie itself and more on those who live within a world of them. There are attacks, several in the books. There are visits to "their" areas to film them for these blogs you mention which is the major theme of the book. Zombie blogging and the Presidential race they follow with it's conspiracy in a Zombie world. I really like the concept of FEED's world, as well as the authors writing style but yes I feel it could use a little more Zombie-facation.

The problem is zombies were used as nothing more than a plot device to further along Grant's story of blogging and conspiracies. A zombie book should be about the zombies. They're not supposed to be a plot device to tell some other story.

How do you feel about "Patient Zero" by Jonathan Mayberry?

I haven't read that.

Patient Zero to me was hands down one of the best Zombie novels written in the past several years. Excellent read. Liked the sequel, Dragon Factory, though not as much and it wasn't a zombie novel but a Bio-Terrorism/Genetics novel. Still great sereis so far.

Patient Zero was one of the better books I read last year. Lots of action and a great set up for a new series. There is talk of a television series based on the characters.

I actually liked the fact that the zombies almost seemed secondary. Mayberry did a short-story with the characters that had the team fighting 'transformed' soldiers. Not sure if it is still available on his site.

Patient Zero is very good but once again the zombies are not the primary antagonists. They are still important but it is the talk of the zombies, the mental factor, that makes it a suspenseful book. The same things that make Patient Zero a good book make Feed a good book.

There is a good book that I read that I think that you would like. The book is Dead City. It is the first book by Joe McKinney. McKinney is a former cop and the main character in his story is a cop. The book is kind of like "Die Hard" or "24" only with zombies. It takes place over the course of one night. The world goes to hell and this officer and his partner fight to stay alive and keep others alive.
Zombies are everywhere! It was a fun book that I will probably read again. It is well worth the $6.99 that Amazon is asking.

More of a conspiratorial thriller set in the world of zombies than a traditional zombie story. Still, I liked it enough. Clever writing/dialogue, and the technology/social media aspect was interesting. Not sure if I'll follow the series but it was worth the read.

i got my copy of deadline today pretty happy :D

Its more of a cyberpunk novel with zombies in the background. I liked it ok, but it could have been about 200 pages shorter and not hurt the story.

I really like the variety we are seeing in zombie literature. It seems much richer and varied that the vampires offerings out there.

Plus, a zombie would kick a vampire's butt!

plus no one falls in love with a zombie...probably because the zombie would eat them instead of just saying that they are dangerous and might eat you!

god I love zombies!

Hadn't heard of this book before, but it looks interesting. I'm going to check it out. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion is the only zombie read on my TBR list at the moment.

I just finished that one and it is a different take on the story. It is a zombie love story, so beware.......

Unless you are a zombie purist, you might live Breathers: A Zombie's Lament which is definitely a zombie love story.

When I first read Feed, I felt let down and I was a bit unimpressed. However, after I finished it, and having read many other zombie novels, I found myself very drawn to the style of Feed. Once I started reading Deadline, I had to revisit my review of Feed.

Feed is a zombie story that is done in a manner that is most relevant to today's society. It is all about the ratings and capturing your 15 minutes of fame. It is an attempt to be reality TV at it's finest. Great stuff!

I am reading Feed now and it seems to me to have a lot of Scooby Doo moments. I like it alright, but it is not really something I would choose to read again. oh, and the phrase "poking at dead things" is used way too much.

That's exactly how I feel. I looked into that book a lot and I just don't think I could do it. A zombie trying to forge a relationship with a human . . . there's a grimace on my face just thinking about it.

Nekropolis features a zombie detective who has a love interest. I enjoyed that book, but it was not zombie-focused.

Breathers is about zombies meeting at a zombie support group, and the main character has a romantic relationship with another zombie. There's some really funny and well written scenes of violence and gore. It's a pro-zombie story, but still really fun to read between more intense, dramatic zombie books.

amazing book, great character development. also look for "Deadline" same author just as good!

Ewwww. I gagged a little. Plus, I doubt you can escape the oh so sexy smell of rotting flesh.

I give any author who has a different idea or approach kudos. Unfortunately it didn't make this story any less boring to me.

I enjoyed the book and liked the world/environment she created. The story ebbed and flowed for me but overall a strong read. For some reason though, it didn't move me enough to check out the following books in the series.
