L.E. Modesitt Jr. discussion

I was surprised to find that Lee had written these books. As it often happens with me, I remembered the book, but not the author.

Has anyone else read this series?

I've read them all. I really liked the first, thought the second was OK & didn't like the last. I thought the series lost something. I'm not fond of his romance themes, though.

Meeting the Lee and his wife might help you understand the romance in the books. Lee's wife has a commanding, regal presence - she towers like a queen who doesn't have to look up at anyone, no matter their height. Lee is incredibly brilliant and smart as can be, but humble and unassuming. They make quite the pair.

I think this was my least favorite series of his overall, although I did not care for some of the later Ghost novels either.

The ghost stories aren't my favorite either,b ut I think I liked the last ones better than the first. Go figure...

Lynn, that's interesting, but not surprising. That's exactly the way all his romances go. Not my cup of tea.

The series is good though I like the Corean chronicles better. I liked the character of Anna. If she is modeled on his wife then indeed she must be regal. In any case Modesitt's novels have strong females and the Spellsong cycle is about womens leadership.

This is the series that hooked me to L E Modesitt's books. I really liked them, but the first three I think are the best.

I enjoyed the first one immensely, but it tapered off after that. I don't think I finished the series. Still absolutely adore The Recluse and Imager series.

Never met a man who could spend a half page describing a meal and making it riveting.

I'm amazed at how fresh he can keep the Recluse series after so many books. There's what... 18 now?
