Disappointed with Real Men?
I was asked lately if after you Twilight, if you are disappointed with the real men in your life. What do you think, ladies?
To a point, yea. I mean I understand the difference between reality and pretend, but most things that Edward does, resembling a true gentleman, isnt anything that normal, non-vampires, cant do. Agree or disagree?
yess!!!! ehmigawd i was like wow nnow all thes guys are stupid!!!! and i think im jealous...like edward loves bella sooo much and im afraid i wont find someone who loves me that much...if you know what i mean
Must admit, I haven't started yet... I've been reading a Shannara book FOREVER because I had it at school and only read once in a blue moon. So I've been working on that one. I don't remember for sure if this particular one was a newspaper thing, but many of his books were, so I'm sure it was. If it's kinda choppy, it was. Usually his long and drawn out ones were weekly publishings, and the shorter, more to the point books were published all in one shot. With the newspapers, he got paid by the word. :D I will start it SOON though! I promise! :D
Paid by the word...that's what I thought. However, it's not so bad as others I have read. He doesn't describe things in 3 pages that could be done in a paragraph. The chapters are choppy and there's not much of a centralized plot. If the book continues as it has so far the members of a society travel around and we see the stuff they do but not much happens. No worries about finishing Shannara. I'll be reading this one for a while. :)
In a way, because you realise that Edward is only a fictional character and cannot be real. But the way i see it, My boyfriend is my Edward in a was because he is the most perfect peson i will ever meet, and i love him, and no matter what, he is mine, and i wouldn't trade that for all the Edwards in the world.
Brigitte:Thats what your soulmate is supposed to be like... you just have to patient, be aware, and find him. :-)
ok, guys could learn alittle something from edward, but my guy is just fine. i dont need to go after a guy that isnt real. but u have to consider, bella wasnt looking for edward. he wanted to kill her! and thats how they started. wierd. i dont think my bf wanted to kill me.
I was asked out be this kid, and I thought about it and was like "You know, he is definitely not an Edward." so I said No! hahahaha. God, for the rest of my life I will compare guys to him. It is sad.
Amanda:yea, blunt way to put it lol.
But about guys learning something from, the guy I am about to start dating is GONNA read Twilight... I already told him that hes choiceless lol. Not that he isnt gentleman enough, I just want to have something to talk about :-) And the Twilight series I can talk about in my sleep lol.
Hilary:That might not be such a good idea cuz you will NEVER find a guy... no joke.
Edward is 100% perfect, us humans arent. But I am telling you my soul mate is going to be 99.9% perfect lol. Dont let that 0.1% make you turn him down...
hahah he was missing about 90% tho. Thats why I turned him down :)I know that even if I hadn't read Twilight I wouldnt have said yes.
But yeah, 99.9% sounds good!
Glad you are okay with that. :) Haven't read as much as I thought I would this summer- at least so far... :D But I've been reading this same Shannara one since probably Jan. or soon thereafter. I just never had time to read at school... :D And I really like the book, so I WANT to finish it. :D
I thought chapter 4 was funny with them going to watch the military exhibition. Let me know what you think when you get there. :)
I am sorry! I still haven't started it yet... We haven't done much reading around here. I got the baby's room all set up, though... :)
Hahah yeah I guess it sort of makes you yearn for someone as perfect as Edward but it's all make believe (unfortunately) If you can find someone who even has a couple of those qualites you're lucky
No worries. As you can see I have only made it to chapter 4 and the chapters are really short. :) When you get started on it you'll catch up with me quickly.
The only guy who could possibly add up to Edward in my life is shy and gorgeous and doesn't like me,I don't think. The problem is that he is so shy that I don't know everything about him, like how gentleman-like he is, if his personality is really as cute as he is, etc. So, reading Twilight didn't really change my, hmmm what's the right word, outlook on guys the only thing that changed was that I realized what guys can really be like if they weren't so stubborn and stupid as they are.
In love with Edward? Hahaha that's silly, to be in love with a fictional character is self-destructive behaviour, because they're not real, so no matter what you do, you'll never be able to find them. It's like unrequited love to the extreme, because Edward actually could never love you, since you exist and he does not. Unrequited love is way too yellow, too depressing. T_TI adore Edward and is my favourite male character of all time...but I don't think I've ever tried to compare a fictional character to an actual person. I don't even think I've fantasized about finding a person like Edward! I like Edward where he is, safe in the book, with Bella, away from the fearsomeness of rabid fangirls! XDDD
I think once you fall in love with someone, no matter how much they don't fit the perfect image in your head, you'll still be 'irrevocably' in love with them! There is no rational thinking when it comes to love, because love is irrational, unconditional and completely selfless. So when you find your man, I doubt he'll be anything like Edward Cullen from Twilight, he'll be the Edward of your Bella, meaning he'll be uniquely for you and you alone, and he'll be different from everyone else.
I finally started this one. I read through chapter 2 today. :) I see that it will take us both QUITE awhile to get done with this one... :D
I think it's going to be long, but if you take it as a series of short stories instead of a novel, it's actually a good book... :)
I agree. That's how I've been doing it. It's not something that grabs your attention so that you have to finish it right now. However, the individual stories are kinda cute. :)
But it is okay if we both take three years to read this, right? :) I don't think I'll go very fast. It's my "I'm taking a break in the tub" book...
It probably will take me 3 years to read this. :) I'm only on 6. I have too many things going to read quickly.
You know, once you get into the book a ways, it's actually a fun story... :) You still have to treat it like short stories, but it starts running together into one story that continues from chapter to chapter... :)
And it still is, it just picked up a bit because the stories started continuing from chapter to chapter....
I made it through chapter 32 last night. The story is lagging again. It picked up for awhile, though... You can tell he wrote it in a weekly or monthly publication.... Sigh. :) Gonna be a LONG read, definitely. :D
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finished this book last night!!!! Overall, I really liked it. It's just really slow. For the most part, once you get past the beginning, the story starts to tie together. I thought it unraveled in the middle, but Dickens DOES eventually tie all the pieces together. Just takes him 6oo pages to do it...Don't worry about rushing this, by any means. I'm on to sappy kids' books for awhile to give my brain a break. :) I got sick, so I finished the book while I didn't feel good enough to do anything else... :)
I'm glad it picks up for at least a little while. I don't like the books that just ramble on and have no plot. That's why I don't like Hemmingway or any of the books from that era. They are all like that! Yuck! We can't pick Hemmingway for any group reads. :)
I didn't hate House of 7 Gables....I just thought it was weird. It didn't make much sense but I actually finished the book. It was fine until the ending. I didn't like the ending. I'll take Hawthorne over Hemmingway any day. But I'll take Collins over them both in a heartbeat.
Did you ever keep reading this book? :) It was hard to get through. But I was glad I'd read it when I was done... Wanna do a different book or take a break for awhile?
LOL! Now this is quite an interesting conversation topic! I wasnt disappointed with real men after reading Twilight. If anything I came away from Twilight more convicted of what Im looking for in my men. There are certain qualities I look for and wont back down from my standards that what Twilight did for me.

But heck I'm 16 who cares. As I see it love can wait. I'm busy exp..."

I think Stephanie's the one shape-shifting, we were just playing around, Mercy's not telling anyone what to do

Back to man, I don't think Edward is perfect.

I have to admit that I find the stories amusing but won't be rushing through the book. I can make it through a chapter or two a day though. :)
