I finished it...I was a bit disappointed. So much of the book felt so random, and while I know that was intentional, it still felt uncrafted to me. To be honest, when I finished the book, I had lost interest in the characters...they seemed like cartoons.
I just downloaded the audiobook on iTunes (for $4) - it was really well done! And since it was a short book, the audiobook was only about 2 hours long.
I agree with you, Nancy--I didn't really like the characters...they did seem like caricatures. I thought both Dolly and Joseph were very silly--they deserved each other!

Just coming to the end of this one now-not one of my favourite Persephone titles, but I am still glad that I tried it. I didn't especially warm to any of the characters, but did quite like the haphazard style.
I just looked up my review. It was "eh." I gave it only two stars. No interest in the characters at all.

I thought this was a pretty depressing story, although it wasn't without humor (starting with the title). I always like to think about the ending, and what happens afterwards. Will Dolly and Joseph be happy going their separate ways? Do you think they would have been happy together?
