Sammy (ireneadler) | 1616 comments Just wondering... what's Tolkien?
Also wondering... is Sherlock Holmes one of the classics you like? I love the series!!!

message 7: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) Tolkien is the author who wrote The Lord of the Rings. And also, I still have yet to read Sherlock Holmes.

message 8: by Sky (new)

Sevania (sevthedev) | 387 comments Mod
Yes, we should because half of us have already read The Comet's Curse

message 12: by Sky (new)

Sky (clear_sky) | 77 comments I haven't, but every time I look for it, I can't find it...*sigh*

message 13: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) I haven't either. I haven't even attempted to read it yet.

message 14: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (ireneadler) | 1616 comments Oh
My
Gosh.

You have to read it!!! It's my favorite series!!! Here's a description from amazon:

Grade 8 Up—More than 200 years in the future, Comet Bhaktul hurtles past Earth, leaving a deadly contagion in its wake. Bhaktul's disease threatens to annihilate the human race within a decade, but the mysterious illness only affects adults. Scientists worldwide scramble to find a cure, while one scientist proposes a controversial project to preserve humanity, should other efforts fail. Under Project Galahad, 251 teens are sent on a mission to reach a habitable planet free of Bhaktul's contamination. As Galahad enters space, the young people must deal with the intense pressure of saving humankind and the sadness of leaving their families behind. Sixteen-year-old Triana, the ship's commander, must manage daily operations while also dealing with her father's recent death. Matters escalate when, less than a week out, one of the teens spots an adult onboard, a potential Bhaktul carrier. With the help of the Council and the ship's computer brain, Triana does her best to solve the mystery of the uninvited passenger and save their mission. Part space opera, part mystery, the story draws readers in from the beginning with well-placed hooks, plenty of suspense, and a strong premise. The viewpoint alternates between the Galahad crew members and the scientists back at the space station. Solid characterizations keep readers from getting bogged down by the constant shifts in viewpoint, setting, and time. A promising start to a six-part series.—Kim Ventrella, Ralph Ellison Library, Oklahoma City, OK

Sammy (ireneadler) | 1616 comments Hi! I'm Sammy and I also like good books! :)

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I reread books a lot. I have read Narnia probably 5 time last year. I read The Princess Bride 10 times since Christmas, and I have read Watership Down a lot. It gets on my family's nerves. :)

message 18: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (ireneadler) | 1616 comments I've seen the movie for the Princess Bride, but haven't read the book. Which one's better?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't seen the whole movie, but I like the book better. The beginning is way more interesting.

message 20: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (ireneadler) | 1616 comments I tried to read an excerpt of it on amazon, but it only shows the introduction :(

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

The actual story starts on page 39 in my book! Isn't that sad?

You will NOT be a pain. You will be awesome if you comment. I like it when people comment that aren't just Sammy, Emily, and me. It gets old in a way.
