The story opens with school being closed because of inclement weather and Mia's family deciding to take a trip to visit friends and relatives. Describe the mood of the morning. What role does this scene play when tragedy hits?

The mood seems to be very light and happy, which reflects on the family being tightknit and loving. When tragedy occurs, it seems that much bigger because of the connection you saw with the characters in the beginning. The mood sets a tone to the rest of the story line, making the accident seem terrible and heart-crushing. You start to feel for the characters and worry about them, all because of the beginning mood.
