Sarah (goosers34) I am looking for some non-fiction suggestions to spice up my challenge. I have hit a slump and need something fun and interesting, maybe a little creepy or spooky.

Any Ideas?

Emily I have not read this book, but it looks like it might fit your bill: non-fiction and creepy. The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

If you give it a go, let me know what you think.

There's also Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil if you've never read it. I thought that was a fascinating, quick, non-fiction (or rather close to it) read.

Amber (amberpic) I like In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. It's non-fiction, and, I think, totally spooky. I had to stop reading it at night before bed because then I couldn't sleep.

I also recently finished Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. Not creepy or spooky (thought I suppose it could be), but a good non-fiction read nonetheless.

April Helms | 363 comments Yes, I read Devil in the White City. Absolutely creepy! It's cliche, but truth is stranger than fiction. I'd recommend it for history buffs, especially those who like the macabre.

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) 3 non-fiction books I've read and loved are Kabul Beauty School by Deborah Rodriguez, The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs and Shot in the Heart by Mikal Gilmore. Three very different books but all equally engaging...the first is about this woman who decides to go to Afghanistan as part of a red cross type group and ends up staying there and helping the women learn a trade; the second is about this guy whose not very religious but decides to learn more about it by (as the title indicates) dedicating a year to following the bible as literally as possible; and the third is the story about a man who was executed as a criminal as told by his younger brother.

Sarah (goosers34) Thank you everyone. I think I might go with "The Devil in the White City" or another by Erik Larson. I have been meaning to read Devil for a while and heard the writing is easy and fantastic. Thanks for reminding me about it Emily. adn "In Cold Blood" was great!! I loved that book and Capote the movie was good too!! I agree Amber totally spooky!

Thanks again!
