I think it would be really fun and interesting to do a group read. Where every month there is a book that the whole group is encouraged to read. Then we can discuss it.
The only problem, I really have no idea what we could all read. So here please put down your suggestions for what you want to read, then from there, maybe we'll do a poll to decide the book.

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
I'm genuinely surprised you didn't say One Hundred Years of Solitude.

message 4: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Well, that was the first book that came to mind, obviously, but I thought Lolita would be more appropriate.

message 5: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
I hardly think Lolita's appropriate. At all.

message 6: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Fine then. Instead of reading Lolita, why don't we read

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE

GOD DANG THAT BOOK IS SO DELICIOUS IT'S LIKE A CAKE OF GOOD WRITING AND AWESOME STORY SO TASTY IN MY TUMMY

message 7: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Well, is One Hundred Years of Solitude appropriate for a kids group?

message 8: by Baxter, butts butts butts (last edited Jul 07, 2010 01:54PM) (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
BAHAHA HECK NO IT ISN'T.

If Lolita can't pass, there is no way OHYoS could. It's got like, quadruple the pedophilia. Plus incest. And a lot of normal sex too. Oh, and I'm pretty sure there is some bestiality in there.

Let's not even get into the OTHER stuff.

message 9: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
*facepalm* I'm sorry Baxter, then I'm pretty sure we won't be reading either...

Ky (poeticshark) | 10786 comments Devoured by Amanda Marrone

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce. Or maybe not. It's a really really good book but not quite the style of writing most people like.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I think a group read is great idea, but I don't know what to read either. My mind is blank right now.

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Umm what about a book by John Green, like Paper Towns?

message 14: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
YES. SOMETHING BY HIM.

I've been meaning to read some Green for a while now.

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie!
The Mysterious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
He sounds good (John Green).

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments What about my suggestions? Meeeeeeeeeeeeeh.... (During this proper grammar am I allowed to use smiley faces?)

message 18: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (flwurautumn) | 4987 comments Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen :D

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments Have you read that?

message 20: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (flwurautumn) | 4987 comments It's in my trunk.

message 21: by Madeline (new)

Madeline Pride and Prejudice is one of my favs

message 22: by Madeline (new)

Madeline i suggest we narrow it down to a genre or basic theme

classic
sci-fi
vamps
werewolves
faeries
... im blanking
other

message 23: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Nahhh. Narrowing it down is silly.

message 24: by Madeline (new)

Madeline then this is gonna go on forever

message 25: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Eh, if you just keep it YA then it will be pretty easy to decide on one.

message 26: by Madeline (new)

Madeline thats true (and narrowing it down). but it does count out classics. on th other hand maybe thats a good thing haha

message 27: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Yes. A very good thing. I mean, classic's are good in theory, but in actuality I don't have the attention span to read them.

message 28: by Madeline (new)

Madeline yeah even my mom doesnt like them. it takes a while for me to read them also. and i cant read anything else

cool

message 31: by Madeline (new)

Madeline and i just checked and i can get it from the library.wohoo. so im totally open to that pick. just saying

message 32: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (okaynevermind) I've already read Paper Towns. YA is cool and all but I'd be kind of disappointed if you limited yourself to such.

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
We decided that because we have people as young as 11 or 12 who still have sort of innocent minds and we don't want anything too inappropriate.

message 34: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (okaynevermind) If there's enough people you could have two books going, I suppose.

message 35: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Two books is a good idea.

message 36: by Madeline (last edited Jul 07, 2010 09:28PM) (new)

Madeline i agree.

and really you only need like at the very least three people for each book

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
I agree. And then if one is more adultish people who are fine with that can read it.

message 38: by Baxter, butts butts butts (last edited Jul 08, 2010 06:36AM) (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
I'd be all for those two Dayna, but I'm pretty sure those are required reading for everybody. They were for me at least.

I'm going to suggest...those other books from that guy who wrote Uglies and whatever. Apparently one is a very intelligent sci-fi book that looks at it realistically and all that. And sense most people here have probably read his young adult stuff, there will be a good little stepping ground for everybody.

message 39: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
There we go, Scott Westerfield. I knew his name had an S in it.

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments Maybe the 'innocent' (as you so quaintly put it) group could read Uglies?

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments Ooohooohoooh we could read Agatha Christie books? Murder on the Orient Express was really good!

message 42: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Indecisive Dayna wrote: "Do you know the title of this book?"

...Not as such, no.

And Agatha Christie is a grand idea I think.

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments Aw shucks what about And Then There Were None? I haven't read it but I want to! Or the library one? Or the caribean cruise one?

Tesssss cool story broo | 527 comments I read that when I was 9 but I got bored and depressed.

message 45: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
I...I have never read The Diary of Anne Frank.

message 46: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Weeeeeell I didn't think it was that obvious, but alright. If you insist.

message 47: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Fine then, I will. And I'll enjoy it too! So take THAT!

message 48: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Darn tootin' I did.

message 49: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Okay okay, I'll go download it right now.

message 50: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Gracious no, I WISH I did. But nah, I'm just putting it on my computer is all.
