Once again, your recommendations for great books on international relations are the primary reason I joined this group that you wisely created for Goodreads.
Thanks for the recommendation. I've added it to my must-read list.
Turkey is unique among Muslim countries with its emphasis on secularism in governmental affairs and its ties to the West. Yet there is an extremist religious movement within Turkey that is growing in its influence upon that nation's politics.
Turkey is our NATO ally and hence, important to American interests and security. Clearly, this is an important and timely book that Frank has recommended.

With the recent sea battle between the Turkish sponsored flotilla and the Israeli military, it is clear that Turkey is determined to show itself as a rising -- and perhaps leading -- power in the Middle East. I'm in the midst of reading Steven Kinzer's recent work ("Reset: Iran, Turkey, and America's Future")> Kinzer, a former New York Times foreign correspondent, gives a fascinating account of Turkey's aspirations in the region and how they intend to deal with an increasingly militant -- and regionally dangerous - Iran. And what role, if any, the United States should play.
Has anyone else read this book? Or does anyone else have any good recommendations on good reads about Turkey and the region?
