Qt | 139 comments Hello! Thanks for letting me know about this group. It's a great idea!

message 5: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments That's neat to have someone to talk about it with :-) Either offline or online!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

did somebody say Sarge!?!?!?!!!!

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

oughta curiousity new recruit. what does that ther Qt stand for?

message 8: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Well, if you say Q_T fast it sounds like "cutie" :-) By the way, do you watch COMBAT! on TV as reruns, or do you have it on DVD/tape?

message 9: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments That's better--no ads or interruptions :-) Are there special features on the DVDs?

message 10: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Ooh, neat! Now I want to find them :-)

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah there great! I love COMBAT!

message 12: by Julie (new)

Julie | 28 comments Hey, I'm Julie. I obviously also love Comabat! I have the complete series on DVD and I watch Comabt! every day. I even dressed up as Saunders last Halloween and wear my field jacket with Sergeant stripes all the time in fall and winter. I am the one who had to hand create the "No Rest For Heroes" book by Calin on Goodreads so I could review it. I love Comabt! so much that this little picture of Kirby is what I use for all my avatars on the internet. I wish I had a sister or a friend to talk to Combat! about all the time, but I'm fine with just obsessing over it myself.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah its cool when you have someone to talk to. I have my sister she's pretty awesome! we hav alot of fun 2gether.

message 14: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Hi Julie! That's really neat you dressed as Saunders for Halloween! And yes, it is always great if you have someone to talk to about it. Though of course, obsessing by yourself is also good :-) I'll have to go look up "No Rest for Heroes" and read your review; I'd love to read that book sometime.

message 15: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments It sounds like your whole family is into the show! That's really great! :-)

message 16: by Julie (new)

Julie | 28 comments How did you all find the show? I saw it on Saturday afternoons on a local TV channel when I was 12.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

oh the best obsession one can have!

message 18: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments My parents used to watch it when it was on TV too--then it was on reruns on the Nostalgia channel several years ago, and we taped most of the episodes, and that's when I really got into it, because it was on about every night and Mom and Dad would watch and tape it. I don't really remember if anything in particular about the show caught my attention--probably the characters--but it certainly became a favorite very quickly :-D We lost track of it on TV for a while, but we had the taped episodes, and now it's on TV again every weekday night. Wonderful :-)

message 19: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments It's on the "American Life" TV network. We have one of the older C-Band satellite dishes, and the channel itself is free.
You can go to the channel's website, www.americanlifetv.com, and if you scroll down on the home page and click on the COMBAT! link under "Greatest Generation" it'll take you to the show's page and there's a little trailer for the series that plays :-) You can also click on "Greatest Generation" and it'll play a trailer that combines scenes from COMBAT! and also two other World War II shows, "Twelve o'clock High" and "Rat Patrol".

On my internet connection, the videos take a bit to load properly; I usually let them load, then I go to another page. I return to the trailer page, and the videos play properly for me. They're kind of fun to see :-)

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Rat Patrol that is right up there with Combat I adore Tully/. I think I shall have to start a Rat patrol site now!!!!
Twelve o-clock High is also a big fav.

message 21: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Yep, "Twelve o'Clock High" is a TV show too--I think it was probably based on the movie.
And, that's cool that you've both heard of Rat Patrol too! :-D That is a good one, also!

message 22: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments I think it's a good show :-)

message 23: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Great idea! :-)

message 24: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments This isn't quite a COMBAT! question, but has anyone ever heard of/seen the show "The Gallant Men?" I've never seen it, but it used to be advertised on one channel and it looked like another WW2 show, made around the same time as COMBAT! I think. It sounded interesting, and I thought it might have some of the COMBAT! actors as guest stars or something.

message 25: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Oh, by the way--just to let you know, we're having company for 3 weeks so if I'm not on here quite as often, that's why :-)

message 26: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments OK, thanks; too bad it was a flop, but it would be nice to see it sometime anyway.

message 27: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments I added a poll today.

message 28: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Just curious, but some of the discussion topics at Group Home seem to have disappeared--is that a glitch on my computer? Just wondering! Thanks!

message 29: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments OK, thanks, I tried that; they still don't seem to be coming up. It says "showing 2 of 2 topics" and there were more than that, I think.... I don't know--it's kind of odd!

message 30: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments By the way, I'm adding another poll :-)

message 31: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments OK, I'll try it!

message 32: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments That works! Thanks! There are even some topics I hadn't seen before :-)

message 33: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Does anyone remember the first episode they saw?

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

ooooooo nope seen to many to be remebrin that there!

message 35: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments That's neat, you got to see the pilot for your first episode! Good way to do it!
I don't remember my first one for sure (I was probably like 5 or 6 or so) but the first ones I remember are "S.I.W.", and the one where Hanley is in the village which is full of landmines. I think there is a French nun and a German in the episode too but I don't remember the name.

message 36: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Yes, I thought it was quite a good episode. I'll have to try and find the title in the book....

message 37: by Julie (new)

Julie | 28 comments Hey combatants! I have been away for months it seems. I have a problem with my short attention span and hyper focusing. I still love Combat!

Okay, the topic is what was the first episode each of us saw. I have no idea what the first one was I saw, but it must have been early in the first season because I remember Kelly was a bigger deal than Kirby. My best guess is that it was "The Celebrity".

message 38: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Hi, welcome back!

message 39: by Qt (new)

Qt | 139 comments Yes, that's a great one! Thanks for recommending it! I love all the photos. The only other one I know of is Jo Davidsmeyer's site--you probably know of it already but if not I can find the address....

message 40: by Julie (new)

Julie | 28 comments I look at Fruit Salad regularly. I love the episode commentary in the "Scuttlebutt" section. It is also the best treasure trove of photos that I have seen on the internet.
